spin at its finest, just like when fat people sue the fast food industry for making them fat.

America was designed to be a place of pragmatism. The creators of the country wanted to establish a place on Earth where people were free to pretty much do what they want and practice what they want and believe what they want. Only in modern America has this dream been so easily dashed away from our younger generation, we seem to be moving more towards a grey sort of acceptance that allows for more rules creating less rights and less thought. True, the girl repeatedley broke the rules, and was punished. In countries devoid of the American thought, it is easy to just accept a consequence and learn from the mistake. But this is in America - the land of supposed second-guessing every fucking rule out there that has detrimental results to the person; it's a land of self-interest, a misunderstood concept that has delivered the nation from a lot of economic and political woes, but has also earned resentment and disrespect from...other...nations. Make whatever good points you want to regarding how the girl can and should be justly punished, but don't diregard the fact that the concept of America is one in which little girls can freely do cartwheels at lunch time, and parents have a right to argue with a supposed "authority" about the encroachment on their rights.

That being said, it's obvious that America doesn't truly exist. The United States remain, and many long for the days when those two ideals could/can be reunited. All we have is ideals to compare to. Don't just accept things, true Americans - change the world. The lack of this mentality has perpetuated the degrade of our society - the very fact that we're becoming so globablly-conscience has really become a weakness...and yet, we're supposed to accept things from all walks of life. What a difficult situation this has landed us in.

Saw a principal on TV from the school talking about little cartwheel Sally. Seems she was doing the cartwheels indoors like a little f*cking idiot showing off to her classmates. They were afraid she might fall and hit her head on the concrete floor and they would be sued for allowing it. Aand there you have it, parents and media blowing sh*t out of proportion again like normal.
At least it was more pleasant to hear about the cartwheel kid than about teachers and priests raping kids, which seems to be more prevalent these days in the news.

And what if a car-load of gang members drives by the playground and buries a bullet in the head of every one of those children? Who will we sue then?

It's sad that this has become a nation of victims, and it's sad that I have to admit you're right - not because of the principle therof, but for the fact that so many people think that they can just get their money in court and wash their hands clean because of a simple, human error. I know the schools are poor, I know that they run the risk of being sued and subsequently closed down, but in that vein of thinking, why do they even let the children outside in the first place? Children WILL get hurt; I just second-guess the very principle that people want to be protected from their own fucking lives. It's unfortunate that people believe they are entitled to something in this world; through all our ideals and musings, we can't even let a little girl do cartwheels.

I remember when I was in high school someone threw a water balloon in the cafeteria and the principal called the police in to arrest the kid and sent out a letter to all the parents apologizing and saying that "someone could have been killed."

I suppose that's true... if they're allergic to water.

i don't remember reading that they told the parents first. they should have contacted the parents and have the parents tell the child to stop.
