That's true, but i was just thinking that since you are relying on your other senses for information, wouldn't you be able to hone them to such a skill that they would get better?

Hmmm. No I was talking about the guy who said your eye color was a reflection of your soul or something... I'm just musing on that bit of info. Not really sure what the mystery is yet, just that there is one. hehe
BTW how do I read the threads? I have a computer that has software to put all the text and stuff into speech and Braille (yes it's expensive!!). But with it I can pretty much do everything a sighted person can do on a computer, except obviously photo editing and perhaps figuring out Fruityloops. lol Music production programs are highly inaccessible but I work on it.
I'm wondering how blind people are automatically assumed helpless though, just curious. I get that a lot and I'm just wondering where it gets started.
Edit" OK yeah I forgot aboout the entire reason i was replying. I really don't know if you can improve your senses by using them so much. Since I've been a total all my life I don't have any basis for comparison and the one friend I have who lost her vision hasn't been the easiest to stay in touch with so yeah. I figure it's something like when a sighted person gets dumped off in the wilderness and comes back a year later and can never be the same because of what they had to do for themselves. I have blind friends with no sense of smell or partially deaf and deaf/blind people so who knows!

That's interesting.. and by all means I never once assumed visually impaired people are helpless. I went to high school with a blind student and he was fiercely independent about doing things. There is not a thing in the world that I dont think that kid can do..

I was just asking because I didn't know how exactly you were reading stuff online (i.e. someone reading it for you or something)

And I honestly can't answer my own question either, hehe. Its a rhetorical question.

People say that you feel more cut off from the world if you're deaf. And thinking about it, I'd probably agree with them. If you're blind, at least you can still hear what's going on, and you can sense when people are around. You can still tell what sort of mood they're in from the sound of their voice, and of course, you can still enjoy music.

For me, much as I appreciate all of my senses, being deaf would be like somebody putting this wonderful world in front of you, but never letting you be a part of it. That would be intolerable for me, so I say blind. Although I hope it never happens.
