Do you really think those tracks rank up amongst the likes of Mike Oldfield and Jean Michelle Jarre? If you do, you're quite clueless.

Namlook & Dr.Atmo - Omid/Hope
Brian Eno - Discreet Music
Rhythim Is Rhythim - Strings Of Life and Nude Photo
Nitzer Ebb - Join In The Chant
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These)
Cybotron - Clear

Is U96 - Das Boot counting? If not, than Jarre's Equinox IV.

Hmm. I say:

-New Order - Confusion (and all the knockoffs of it)

-Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You (probably the epitome of French house, with the exception maybe of Da Funk)

-The KLF - What Time is Love

Word... again.

Frankie Knuckles - Your Love
Orbital - Halycon On+On

We all know Frankie Knuckles is a classic himself, one of the first pioneers of House music.

Even his old sets from like 1985 still amaze me to this day.

Tangerine Dream - Stratosphere $ Dolphin Dance

pretty much many of the earlier TD productions

D.A.F. - Gold und Liebe
Visage - Visage
Joy Divison - Closer - Isolation

Do you mean Mike Oldfield - Tubullar Bells? Bc Oldfield is not EDM?
Tubullar Bells might be the most successful instrumental album of all time, but I wouldn't say it's Electronic Music...

Vangelis - Chariots of Fire

Cybotron - Clear

Props to you! I've never seen Cybotron mentioned here, much less Juan Atkins or Derrick May, although I think they may be mentioned in an article I posted in A Short History of Trance. Then again, I'm new here.

DarkFall01 & Jasperovitsj - I don't think Vangelis - Chariots of Fire is EDM. Electronic music, yes. If that's the criteria, then you might as well add some Yanni and John Tesh.

While we definitely have our share of techno heads here on TA, I think the main reason for this is the fact that detroit techno purists wouldn't want to be seen within a 3 link radius of this forum.

Regardless of how overinflated egoes most of the detroit heroes have nowadays (excluding Juan Atkins and Claude Young), and despite the pompous elitistic attitudes their music has spawned among their fans, the immense impact they made on EDM can't be ignored.

Yeah, I was looking at EM, not only EDM

BTW, can someone please tell me why some of you consider Tubullar Bells EM???
There's no way it is...

Another founding artist(i wouldnt call them "legendary") but the stuff they experimented with back in the 60s make them heavily influential on electronic dance music:

Silver Apples, basically it was 2 guys who hooked up all these oscillators and synthesizers and whatever electronic sounding devices they could find at the time and just experimented with the sounds.

Orbital - Chime/Omen

phuture - acid tracks!!!

Posted by Phil r on Nov-17-2004 23:35:

prodigy - firestarter

dj on sat night actually dropped this as the last tune of the night, after the hour, after a thumping hour of psy trance.

the change in rhythm was nuts - it wasn't the same bang bang, it was a more stop start, totally manic rhythm...really good stuff. nice experience to directly compare it after you'd been in a psy trance mood for 60 mins.

of all the times i've heard this track, i never appreciated it in quite the same way as i did then

I was referring the article I posted (MACHINE SOUL: A History Of Techno, by Jon Savage) in the thread Small history of Trance.

I've never seen the thread you mentioned. When the search is working I'll do a search for it. I'm totally curious now. Thanks for the heads up.

I'd call Tubular Bells electronic, there's a lot of synths in it anyway. Or am I wrong?

Wow, only about three morons in the whole bunch. I'm surprised.
