No you are..!

Posted by svens_bath on Dec-02-2004 23:01:

the reason people say markus schulz and ben lost etc are over rated is, imo, beacuse the trance scene got desperately shite for a bit and then these new characters came along and were a breath of fresh air, and a lot of people hyped them up too much and went on about them too much, and now people are just sick of hearing about them. admitiddly this ultra-melodic leama and moor sound is getting a bit old now, but you cant take anything away from either of these djs, as they both played the only 2 trance sets that i actually enjoyed this year, and tbh are the only two trance djs that i would actually pay to see. both of them are good djs with individual tune selections.
tranceaddict is so full of negativity sometimes, people just slate dj/producers because its the cool thing to do, and its quite sad really.

the top 3 in this year's dj mag poll
where's sander in the top 5? zabiela? zabiela alone shits on armin tiesto combined

Posted by trancebrat on Dec-02-2004 23:04:

All threads like this turn into is the same people hating on the same artists that they have always hated on. Blah. Yawn. I would be more inclined to listen to someone if I didn't feel that they had personal issues with certain artist's, but it always turns into the same debate..."my favorite artists are better than yours and here's the reasons why...". "With time" I have learned to dislike certain TA's, but you don't see me posting my hate all over TA. Ok...maybe just one thread.

How can you say that when zabiela plays totally different music and style, Not everyone likes the same music u know..... Use your brain a little more next time....

For everyone else thats bitching about armin , paul and tiesto being over rated you can bitch all you want , theres a reason why they're up there... think a little more about it.

That's cool with me. Shit happens. I'm sure we'll always disagree on one thing or another, but such is life.

I definitely share your opinions on Markus and the whole "diet-cola" sound right now. I never saw what was so special about Markus from the get-go. However, I do give Armin props. Not because of his dj'ing or producing, but because he's got one of the coolest names.

where is Tall Paul overrated? He has a bi-monthly residence here in Boston and it's all tumbleweeds on the dancefloor when he's in town.

and it's just Tiesto as far as overrated. No one even comes close. He's in a league all by himself.

Posted by capricorn15 on Dec-02-2004 23:31:

i think these kind of posts are stupid, because if you just go to the top 100dj poll thread, you can find everyones opinion on this fuckin crap. or if you just search for armin van buuren. you have to think about it. he is a popular dj, which some people dont like, so of course people are going to think he is overrated.

Quite the contrary., I believe that just with as much vigor and passion that people can praise an artist[s]; with time those same people will eventually rescind these feelings.

Why? Because a community based primarily on music will by prerequisite judge that artist by the music they create/play. Any deviation would, in essence, destroy the community.

Once you begin to judge or listen to someone not because of the music they play but for other criteria you lose that precious gift God has given you called reason. When you fail to have reason you fail to have conviction.

There is a huge difference in thinking that a DJ is overrated because you don't enjoy the music he spins and thinking that he's not a good DJ. Technically the DJs that the dude a few posts up posted (i.e. Zabiela, Sasha, Holden, JOOF, etc) are amazing. You can't say they are overrated simply because you don't enjoy their music.......IMO

Sasha is a brilliant dj and producer. Even those that don't like his style will admit that. I don't see how he can be overrated here. Tiesto is, by far, the most overrated dj on this forum.

My your sarcasm detector must have been turned off today. Let me state my post in a manner that might become more clear to you.

There are a select few out of our wonderful community that will come in here and bash like they always do. I'm not psychic, but some people just happen to be very predictable. The same discussion over and over gets boring and old. I think it would say more about you if you were to refrain from bashing an artist for the 100th time this month than to read once again about why you don't like them. I listen to all artists with an open mind and I either like or dislike their music based on what I have heard with my own ears...never from what I have read on a message board. I'm more than happy to have a harmless good natured debate with someone, but how often does that happen in MD? People either attack you calling you stupid if you don't like the same artists that they do or you win internet cool points if you do like the same artists.

I think I know how to reason and use logic just fine. People that constantly post their hate for certain artists and then feel this need to support their feelings with a bunch of examples have just wasted minutes of their day complaining about someone that they don't even like. Where's the reasoning in that? Does anyone on TA think that by hating on certain artists that all of a sudden TA is going to revolt against that artist and they will run and hide their head in shame?

I didn't start this thread or the others where I may need to 'repeat myself'. I merely post my opinions and thoughts relating to the topic. I guess in your mind its ok to praise someone repeatedly but if one person should raise criticism he/she is annoying. For one second think about it the other way around; now you have my point of view.

As you have correctly stated, I do give reasons and explain myself. If we are to engage in a conversation about the musical merit of an artist I would think this is the type of setting anyone would prefer.

I put forth a rationale in all my posts on TA as to why I believe something to be true. I do not just maliciously slander artists. IF you disagree with me, I encourage you to persuade me otherwise. Cobalt said it best when he stated:

Oh, come on. You honestly think that's why threads like this rapidly degenerate?

It surely has nothing to do with people becoming frustrated that they haven't thought their opinions out well enough, and then flaming others for pointing it out. People easily become emotionally attached to popular names; the real test of integrity is if they can rationally defend their reasons for doing so.

Trancebrat I like you as a person; who couldn't like someone as kind and cute as yourself.
My dislike for a particular sound or artist doesn't mean I dislike you. I have never have gone beyond the topic and attacked you. I hope that even if I disagree with people on TA about music we can always find something to bring us together.

P.S.

Markus Schulz + Armin Van Buuren = Axis of Evil

I am not attacking you, Dave. You just read into my post earlier. Probably because I quoted two words that you used in your post. I wasn't referring to you though. Ok...I might have hinted at you a little, but there are far worse people on TA than you. They know who they are.

i agree .....just because someone spins everywhere and is voted # 1 doesn't make them great..there just won a popularity contest...if anyone has been play'n a while knows tiesto/armin/PVD are doing anything special....they may make some decent tracks but spinning wise they are not great......

who is a great DJ in my eyes?

carl cox, Jonathon peters....even junior vasquez although i hate the shit he plays i have seen him work shit heavy duty.....
also other underrated guy is david padilla from miami....i heard him a couple of times in south beach for after hours at this nut house called 'The Mix'.....he was definately one of the best i have heard

don't get me wrong i like armin/tiesto/ and those guys for what they play......but they don't know how to really rock it out in a club enviorment.....IMHO
