But why should he expect any less. You would expect atleast a decent percentage of users on this forum to have a level of maturity to formulate a decent reply to a social problem without resorting to violent explicitives. Either way you would expect that both ends of the spectrum are represented, but it seems to be the case that the more violent or violent/humour section of peoples personality comes across more often.

Because it's a message board and the expectation should be that people should realise that it's a message board. If you have an expectation for good advice than go to a therapist or ask someone who actually cares about your problems. Spouting off about your issues to a message board with 20,000 users, of which probably 19,990 don't care who you are or what your relative issues are is naturally going to incur responses that have a greater propensity of coming from the people who don't care who you are or what your issues are. It's as if I come in here with a broken leg, ask what to do, and then complain about the quality of the medical treatment I received.

I can see that the quality of help won't be as high as you would get from a close friend, family member or therapist. But surely people should know that just sprewing out some macho bullshit reply isnt constructive, and just makes you look hollow.
