shit man ppl are so naive. IMO shit like united way, unicef,etc....i dont believe in it. its bullshit. they just keep the money and it goes to like making bombs. get this: why in the holy fuk would the americans go bomb a country or ruin it (ie. like most countries in africa--ya the US iS all responsible for the poverty over there! it wasnt born a 3rd world continent, it was made..by the US ) and then ask the citizens for money to help the africans back out??????? so first the kill the africans...and then they help them?? there is noo fukin logic in that! hahaaa omg this is just so funnny how ppl can believe that they are actaully making a difference with the $$ they give.

anyway, a bank supporting charity? i dont think so. thats just wut i think.

see if i was to donate money to (ie.the africans) then i would give it DIRECTLY into their hands. wen u pass it on from person to person then how can u trust that they are gonna give it to the person who's collecting the donations? he might not collect anything...or something small..a penny heh

I must admit, it feels good to know that people like this still exist.

And I must say they should've taken those $2,000 out of her welfare cheque... she doesn't deserve to keep any of that money, being that stupid. Sure, honesty is honesty, but this is way into the realm of stupidity.

you've just gotta pick the right kinda charities to partake in .. not all of them are run the same way

Whenever I head back to India I generally make donations directly to the people who need them. Be it the homeless or a collective fund for temples or ashrams or whatever.
Giving it directly to those who need it does feel better I must admit. But I don't think all charity organisations are bogus.

How is returning something that isn't yours stupid?

Wouldn't that be otherwise called, "stealing"?

for gods sakes magnetorium change the lime green font its burning my eyes out of theyre sockets

Posted by Expired on Dec-10-2004 19:09:

When I saw this on th news, I heard there were orange TD tags on the bag.

The original reasoning was that it was a mistake while refilling a machine.

BTW, Pulse24 did a poll on this, and 60% of the callers in said they would have kept the cash.

Expired,

Posted by TrueToTheCrew on Dec-10-2004 20:06:

Its not like the bank lost 40k. They already counted the $$ and is on file. It was probably going back to the mint to get burned.

Posted by GMonkey69 on Dec-10-2004 20:13:

1...It was 20 K...

2...I would pay off my credit card...

3...Nobody would lose other than the insurance company...and the Securicor employee who got a 3 day suspension...

Posted by Salem on Dec-10-2004 20:24:

heh

heh, I would have kept that money for sure

Yes, that a valid point, I thought about that too ... if she didnt tell anyone though, she would have never had to worry about that ...

I guess she is not a needy person then, she probably gets more from welfare than ME WORKING MY ASS OFF THE WHOLE MONTH to pay rent/bills .... I earn around 850 bucks a month, pay 450 rent and still have enough for everything else ... but I cant really save for something big. You see, people like me ACTUALLY NEED THAT MONEY! She gets enough money FOR DOING NOTHING!!!!! She probably gets more money than me!!! WTF!!!

Read and learn people!

I am more than SURE she earn over a grand from welfare ... I earn about 850 bucks a month ,,, I work my arse off at McDonald's, and she gets it for nothing. Plus I may have plans, unlike her - she doesnt need to do anything to live her life - just a guaranteed paycheque from the government ... I bet she's living just fine

When I lived with my parents, our neighbour - she had 2 kids - she received $1100 every month. More than me now ...

If you give me a suggestion - a color rarely used by TAs (that works) - I would accept it!

Not to split hairs but:
a) you don't earn anything while on welfare
b) you aren't raising six kids!

But you are right.
There is defintely something wrong with the system when someone can sit on their ass, do nothing, and collect more than a hard working person doing their time.
I remember being on EI and turning a job down because I was going to make more money sitting at home than spend 60 hr/wk of my life commuting across the city to work...

/me wonders whether $40,000 would be enough for Armin to play at a private party for me and closest friends

You're kidding me right ?....Drought has devestated many African countries so I don't think that the U.S. can change the climate and you'll have to prove to me that Unicef has anything to do with making bombs...I swear that if I was hearing this on "All in the Family" , this is what would come out of Archie Bunker's mouth

My point exactly..............that's why i'd prefer to give it to the Toronto food bank b/c I know i'm handing it right into the hands of the hungry and no 2nd or 3rd party gets a crack at claiming a portion of the $$$. When they get it...........it immediately goes to purchasing food for the needy....and no $$$ goes to administration, b/c all admin is voluntary and not-for-profit.

OK Magnetonium and Fir3start3r, don't take this personal but what's wrong with you two.....Even is she gets $2,000 a month, which I doubt she does...........she can hardly support the kids & herself on the welfare $$$ she gets. Kids cost a lot. Are you forgetting what it was like to be a kid with needs for school?

A single person alone with a $900 rent will usually get anywhere from $690 to $750/mth based on the area they live in. Tell me how are they supposed to afford anything, let alone a mother of 6.
And if you think a mother of 6 just sits on her ass........then you must think that all mothers are irresponsible drunks that smoke and ignore their kids.
Sits on her ass..........I DOUBT IT guys.......more like breaks down from exhaustion after 6pm. BTW, no babysitter would charge any less than $1,000 per month to look after those kids.......so if she went out to work........she'd be lucky to get any money to afford food or clothes for the kids.

BTW....EI amended their criteria.......now if you are offered a job for $7.15/hour and you turn it down, then EI turns you down too. You can thank Mike Harris for that amendment to our employment standards.

Anyways.....that's all I gotta say on this.

Posted by QryS on Dec-11-2004 00:17:

"Finder's keeper" might be okay if it's $5. But $40k! Principles notwithstanding, I'd be too scared for my life to keep it.

If I don't own something, it's not really my place to decide to donate it. I would try to find the place that would dish out the largest reward (finder's fee or whatever they call it) and return it. So I wonder, would the police have given more than $2000?

I guess it did kind of sound like I was picking on the woman but then again, see my point >>>B<<<

My reference to 'sitting on one's ass' was more meant for those without 6 kids...

I'm not that heartless...

stealing? as far as I know she FOUND it... she didn't TAKE it directly from someone else. maybe if the bank asked for "whoever found the $40K to give it back" in the news or something, then I'd think of returning it, but as long as nobody claimed it, i'd keep it!
