Okkkkkkk maybe I'm wrong cuz I looked at my own mp3 files and found a rabbit in the moon mix of a delerium song as well.. ok but here's the thing, Delerium may be getting people to remix their work and we get these wicked songs but does that make themselves trance?? the only reason why I'm saying this is because I listen to original delerium songs and they are far from being trance, just check out the original mix of silence..

but whatever I'm not gonna say you peeps are wrong anymore, it's obviously up to you decide for yourself..

And yes, I agree; it's often hard to say whether some tune is trance, hard house, ambient or whatever Personally I don't really care, as long as it has cool sound full of energy.

All of this is my opinion, but I digress...

Trance - Uses a four on the floor drum beat, lots of melodic synths that repeat their sequences. Idea is to create a musical mantra. Lots of build ups and peaks.

House - Generally a four on the floor drum beat, replace melodic synths from trance with more groove oriented clips.

Ambient - Much the same as trance, but at a slower pace and more focused on vocals. Ambient bands (such as Delerium in my opinion) generally make great remixable music. Speed up a tad, add a few more synth lines, and you have a great trance remix.

Breakbeat - Not a big fan of it, so knowledge is limited, seems to be alot like house but with innovative bass drum beats that change often.

Hard <blank> - Seems to be an adjective to describe a dirtier, heavier feel. Look at the difference between rock and hard rock.

Progressive <blank> - From what I can tell, progressive electronica generally replaces many of the synth lines with guitars, vocals, bass guitars etc. A band such as Hooverphonic comes to mind.

One more, Goa Trance - Same beats as Trance, but sped up more, extra synth lines, and the synths carry a distorted tone.

I think Aviston has pretty well got it, but I would say that "progressive ..." is generally used to describe a style that is breaking away from the "..." style heading forward in an ever changing world etc.
For example, progressive house is on its way from house to trance (I think Swamper has said something about this somewheres).

Also I thought Ambient was like chill out stuff. eg Endorphin (cool Aussie artist - worth checking out for those times when you need to reelaaaxxx).

Goa is really just another name for hardtrance. I think it just got named after the place: Goa.
www.realitycheckmp3.com have some good examples of artists in the main genres.

After all this, I still say give the track a listen - if you like it good. If not, get another.

Actually, Goa trance is a little different than hardtrance. Because of the added synths, there is more going on, giving it a psychedelic feel. Not that I can tell the difference mind you

Also, what you said about progressive is right on. I was mainly referring to progressive trance, which is supposedly breaking away from the norm by using more vocals and 'real' instruments.

Goa Trance has a very distinctive Beginning,Middle,and End ... i read some where it said it was originated from out door sets where the vinyl got so hot from the sun they couldnt mix them thats why for its has a very distinctive Beginning and end, but what do i know i rarely listen to Goa...so mayb im wrong just rephrasing what i read!

I always thought that goa was basically psychotrance. ie. hallucinogen, astral projection, infected mushroom, etc.... personally my favorite type of trance, I love all the trippy riffs and samples and such
Goa always seems to have alot of delays/echos going on.

PS. If you want to hear an absolutely amazing goa set, try paul oakenfield - goa mix (can be found under goa mix silver on napster.) His current stuff is pure shit compared to this.

PPS. Swamper, if you're listening, more goa tracks on the site would be great! Keep up the good work!

i dont know all that much about music but from what i can tell house/ hard house has a lot of older sounding music, if you compare it to disco they sound pretty similar. Trance on the other hand either makes me want to dance or sleep it has more rythym and more fluent vocals. any way back to the original topic I think that anne savage and bad boy bill have the best stuff that i've heard.

In Holland we have got a couple of great hardhouse dj�s.....We first had the genre: Gabber and Hardcore. Many of the Dj�s that first spinned those styles or stepping to Hardhouse. Some examples are: Lady Dana, Buzz Fuzz and Dano(watch out their mixes are really hard) When you are looking for the softer Hard trance listen to Mauro Picotto or Miss Djax!
