Hello!

welcome Maheem! you'll soon find that most of us are a little "wierd" (some more so than others hehe), but this is a very refreshing surprise from your average, stuck-up, poser Atlantans! never found a group of people that I'm as comfortable with, or that I share as much with! I hope you enjoy your stay here, and can't wait to party with you soon!!!!!

so tell us some more about yourself! how long have you been in atlanta? have you done much clubbing/partying here? any favorite DJs? do you have a particular favorite genre of EDM?

you'll find many of us now are getting into progressive house, such as DJs like Sander Kleinenberg, James Holden, Satoshi Tomiie... we still love trance gods like Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, and Tiesto (well, some of us still love tiesto haha), but our new favorite club, the Mark, has been exposing us to a lot of new DJs and styles, so we're all broadening our horizons quite a bit right now

Thanks for the warm welcome Gavin...

No worries, I've come to believe that everyone else out there is wierd and we're just.. well... ok fine, def not normal.. heehee.. but that's a good thing!

More about myself? hhmmm... I've been in ATL for about 9 yrs now, quite a while, but I have yet to call it home. I have been out some, but honestly it was only bc I got dragged out in college to bad clubs with friends when there was nothing else to do.. but i could only take so much shotty rap and hiphop... it was only recently that I finally put a stop to that and decided to go only if I could enjoy the music, regardless of what the others were doing.. even if it means not going out clubbing... I've perused through midtown, passing my share of evenings at 1150, Crescent room, Velvet Lounge, etc etc.... nothing fantastic... is it just me, or since the re-vamp at 1150 are they playing cheesier music unless a special DJ is performing? I do like Eden sometimes, during warm weather.

And yes, the Mark has now made it to the top of my list, providing an intimate and secluded venue for true edm artists and listeners.

But since it's the music I enjoy most, and not the glitsy club scene, I am quite content chilling at a friend's listening to someone spin good music with good company all around.

If I had to pick a particular genre of edm, I'd have to say I've strayed more towards progressive house, as you said... some tribal... tracks with non-cheesy vocals.. I don't have a favorite DJ, mostly b/c if I like a new CD by a certain DJ, i love it, but by their next release of another CD, my tastes have changed and I am into diff DJs... but yes, I have enjoyed the sounds of Sander K, Sasha & Digweed, Christopher Lawrence, Tiesto, PVD, Anthony Pappa, Deep Dish, Satoshi, Saeed & Palash, Oakenfold back before he went mainstream, Dave Seaman, Armin... i could go on and on.... some of those DJ's CD's are in my top 10 list of favourites... oh, and Troy Robert's West Coast Progressive Sessions on Protonradio.. altho I haven't listened recently since they cut down his air time....

It really depends on the mood I'm in... I was recently gifted with a copy of Sander K's newest CD which I've swallowed up... my current favourite producer is Omid 16B, and I have been wanting to hear the new Mara CD, which a friend has graciously found for me so I don't have to wait for online delivery.

Did you make it to the Mark for Pappa?

I also listen to some other music, a select group of non-edm artists....

Well, as you can see, i can babble on quite profusely, so I will cease and desist....

that's a little secret between me and, well... jordan's post on page 2

it certainly sounds like you know your way around the scene!! i think you're right about eleven50 - not to mention, I've never really felt the crowd there, never felt completely comfortable... this is another reason why i love the mark!! like you said, it's so small, and pretty out of the way, and this makes it a destination only for those that want to hear some GOOD music!

no, i didnt make it to Pappa's show at the Mark, i was home for thanksgiving in boston... i have been listening to a lot of his stuff recently though, and have got to say i like what i hear

as for hanging out at people's places and listening to each other spin, you'll find this is one of our favorite activities - if we can't hear some good music in a club, why not make our own?? and with that list of DJs you like, i think you'll fit in just fine

oh, and if you like sander's new CD (how can anyone not???! hehe), you should check out James Holden - Balance 005 . This is another one of those MUST-have CDs of 2004
