Like many here, I'm saddened by increasing competition posed by digital audio technology to good ole analogue (turntables)... but think about it... without technology, there could be no edm. Nothing will be the same as workin on a set of good decks, feelin' that viynl....ooo yaa

He can still be a DJ...a digital jockey

he started using his laptop here in nyc in october extensively. for the start of his residency, they had a totally new set up for sasha, in which he did live remixing on the spot. i wasn't able to recognize much remixing except maybe smashing pumpkins - 1979, but my friend who was there with me said that sasha did a lot of extensive remixing on the spot. it was quite flawless... i guess the laptop can only enhance the experience, especially if sasha does it live.

wow alot of ignorant posts here. if u guys actually had the chance to fire up ableton u would understand that whut he's doing is step up. while using a computer is not the most interactive thing ever... its certainly a step towards the future.
NOTE: Traktor is NOTHING like Ableton for those you use trying to make the analogy

alright, the only difference is he wont change the records, so what? is he not changing the damn tune?
btw.. ive used programs such as traktor and virtual dj, its just the same mixing.
I think as long as your tracks are good and unique, your mixing is excellent and you get the crowd going and you know what you're doing it doesn't matter if you're using VDJ, Traktor, Ableton or turntables and a mixer.
so this makes tiesto the only one ever not using programs? im pretty sure armin, ferry all have once.
I guess so. Tiesto is kinda old school when it comes to equip :P
Always spinning vinyl and his main synth is a moog (Which isn't bad at all don't get me wrong. I love my minimoog!
)
and there is a reason why djs stay #1

| Originally posted by stren less effort ? I don't think so; just because he doesn't have to beat match doesn't mean he puts less effort into it. He does so many things now, he didn't have time to do before, because he had to beatmatch. Practicly remixing the track on the spot is > than playing vinyl/cd's. I mean c'mon man, don't be an amish boy |
the only thing that we must realize, that we have XXI century, technology is going forward, we are going forward and sasha is going forward...
it`s good to looking for something new, sasha did ant 'reskept' for that!
From a clubbers point of view, you like to see the dj queing a record, speeding it up or slowing it down, with cumputers you don't get any of that, however it's all about the music but I don't think vinyl or CD's will be pushed to one side for cumputer mixing.
I guess you could say this is just semantics over the term "Disc Jockey"....but i doubt that is what the thread-poster means

If you want to take the literal meaning of the term, a disc jockey spins and manipulates "discs" (ie vinyl). Technically, if Sasha is not using "discs", and only using a computer, than he is no longer a disc jockey, but instead a performer or a musician.
hmmmm, maybe i'm just talking shit cos i've been drinking all day
Merry Christmas maties!!!!!!!
We're all agreeing then, he's not a DJ.
