I wonder just what the measure of a single human life is to people anymore.

Yeh i remember tht quake in Turkey...my friend in LA told me that the news channels didn't bother covering this story because LA had an earthquake of their own... something like 3.4 on the richter scale and 2 people were injured by falling plates...i men it just seems that people are only bothered by what affects them.

I also realised that the number of people that died today is more than twice the number killed on 9/11...i guess it doesn't take as much attention though because it was a force of nature rather than a human provoked (sp?) attack.

At the end of the day this is such a sad day for the world

I was at work for a 13 hr boxing day shift and my boss comes into the warehouse at 4:30pm and says check out the tv section, we had BBC on. I was speechless and some of my co-workers phoned home (like their real homes) because they had family near the areas, they are all ok. This shows how we are at the mercy of mother nature at times. My prayers and sympathy goes out to all affected, especially around Christmas time.

12 000 dead is worst than 9/11 :P

It's actually the 4th largest earthquake since 1900, not the 5th.

It's an island/resort that many british tourists frequent, my aunty/uncle have been 2 or 3 times

actually the weird thing here is that I watched a show on Tsunami's and mega-tsunamis (not the ones caused by earthquakes but large islands falling into the sea) just 3 or 4 nights ago, they've predicted that one of the canary isles (where I holiday) called La Palma is slowly falling ionto the sea and if it does, a tsunami about 20 times the size of this will devastate the entire east coast of the usa if it happens.

I know there have been disasters that have taken more lives before...but have any been as widespread as this one?

Indonesia, Malaysia, Somalia, India, Sri Lanka etc etc....

Even the west coast of Australia felt an increase in ocean swell (from what I heard)

Yea true... he has lotsa fans heh. I don't have a link for Jet Li. There's a topic regarding this in a local(singapore) forum and some of them claimed to hear that on the radio news report.

edit: forgot to say this in my previous post, Jet Li went for a vacation(i dont know the location)
