everything has a beginning and an end. In order for one thing to be set in motion something else needs to set it in motion prior.

so if the universe began at nothing something must have been there before to set it in motion.

If going off the quantum theory...that may be the real answer, I mean energy just passes along somewhere, it never dies so maybe our souls are just energy that passes into a different dimension that we cant see. Since we do not know that it exists or how it would look like, we cant make a visual perception of what it is.

i mean, this pseudoscientific bullshit can be applied to everything that lives (i.e. bacteria - they use energy too), does those things have a soul too?

why not, just because their function in life is different then ours does not make them any less.

ive always looked at life like this. everything is broken down to simpler and simpler things. i mean we're made of cells cells are made of particles particles are made of atoms and then even the atom can be broken down to simpler things. how do we know we're just not making up something in a larger picture. maybe our universe is just a bunch of atoms making up a pimple on a horses ass in another picture

Who said anything abotu thermal ...guy, the only thing keeping you alive, and your heart beating is an electric charge, thats how ur heart beats. Im talking about u rbodies charge that keep u alive, that goes somewhere when you die, that energy..not thermal.

your idea of the soul and reincarnation is impossible. world population has gone up significantly withen the past 200 years. how can you explain that? do souls then break up? am I 1/10th of someone else?

No offense to any of you, but this is why I find studying psychology to be so depressing. Whatever discoveries or understanding we achieve has to be kept to ourselves and a select few 'real' scientists, because the general public (heck, 99% of people I've met) just prefer to make up illogical little fairy tales and believe what they want to believe because it makes them feel better.

This is true. There is no such thing as the nothing. To say there is the nothing (absense of everything, not from The Neverending Story) means to give it a form, thus to say that nothing is something, making the nothing a contradiction. Therefor, the nothing does not exist.

It's amazing that religeon has sustained itself for so long. Think about it. Human belief at the beginning of our time has always considered ourselves the center of everything, that we are the most important, and we make up ideologies that cater to those ideals. Why is it that we thought that Earth was the center of the Universe when religeon was created? When that concept quickly demolished, and further thought in the universe prevailed, we quickly found out that Earth is just a planet in the grand scheme of things, and certain circumstances made it possible for life to be created on earth. Our beliefs had lead us to the conclusion that we are the first, the most important, and the only infinite beings, but logical realizations has ceased these thoughts throughout history.

That's all I have to say for now...
