Talla is just.... oh man....
I've heard many sets of his before I heard him live at Viva on New Years... and all were incredible..
but... when he spun at Viva...
He knew we wanted it hard, and he gave it to us like no tomorrow.
And the remixes he dropped?

PVD - For An Angel
Cosmic Gate - Bilingual
DOGZILLA - YOUR EYES?!?!?!?!
WOOOOOOOOW
He's lost it.

At some points I just stopped dancing. It was just too much.

I also REALLY liked DJ Key's set. Very hard, and very interactive DJ. Got a chancee to talk to him too after his set!

had an awsome time at talla on nye. at the beginning was right up at the front until about half an hour after talla came out then i started spending some more time at the bar -- chilled drunkenly on the couches in the back till about 330 then i headed back to the front and was there dancing right up in the front until about 530. i was the one wearing the bush-cheney 04 tshirt and my friend was wearing a "new york f*#%ing city" tshirt some girl even came over to me and said "gotta love bush" which i got a nice chuckle out of
TALLA kicked ass i am so happy that my friend persuaded me to go even though i had never heard of talla before christmas. lets keep the amazing epic trance and hard trance and hardstyle parties coming to toronto! heres to hoping that that first party of 2005 was only the beginning of good things to come!
i have a couple of low quality pictures taken with my 3650 i can send to someone if he/she wants to host them
those nirvana tracks were mad cool and fun to be drunk too! and i absolutely freaked when he started playing that remix of born slippery - underworld I LOVE THAT SONG AND ALL ITS REMIXES YAY TALLA2XLC YOU KICK @$$!!

It was an awesome night indeed. I was there, along with my friend ... although we blended in real well with the "clubbers" . We didn't exactly look like TA's. We got there around 1am, and noticed the really off mixing, which it seems was equipment failure? The DJ right before Talla, don't know his name, dropped some monster tracks, I really loved all that DJ Isaac.

Then Talla came on ... and his whole set for the most part was great. I was happy to hear him drop some new tracks, and unreleased tracks. Highlight of the set for me HAD to be

Olive - You're Not Alone (Bobina Megadrive 2004 Remix)

When the track was building up, I foolishly though it was the ATB remake of it, but when the song got into the breakdown, I was shocked that it was the Bobina mix.

We were pretty tired from dancing non stop for the Talla set ... we rested as Talla ended it off, and Drag N Fly came on. When he dropped Svenson and Gielen - Twisted (Energy Mix), I went nuts, as that shocked me. This wasn't my first time hearing Drag N Fly, so it was surprising. As we were about to leave at 5:30am, we heard the signature effects of Yoji's Theme from Banginglobe, so we stayed for that track, and then finally left.

The crowd was the usual Asians, with a few hilarious people as usual. The non-asian girls surprised me, although there were few, they were all really good looking . There were a few girls that were dancing really funny, trying to shake their ass to trance. I don't know if it was a joke, or if they were seriously dancing, because it looked really funny.

One thing that bothers me about VIVA (and most clubs) why must the sound be so LOUD ... and VIVA's base is way too much. I mean sound that loud can damage your hearing , unless you got earplugs.

It was a great night overall, money well spent, and I can't wait till Destiny 49 ... KAI TRACID BABY .

It's because when you go to a club it's about music just like a rock concert. Lounges have lower music so you can socialize more. A good club has loud but crisp sound and a good lounge doesnt.

Earplugs are an option if it really bothers you. Some people have hypersensitive hearing.

I know what you mean... but there's too much of an echo in Viva...The crowd can only hear thumping bass and not the rest of the tracks that are being played. Maybe its the speakers? Shitty quality? Or it could be that they're not placed properly which is causing the sound to bounce off the walls and miss the crowd... Anyway... The only reason I go to Viva is because of the music... A place like Viva should have a high quality sound system cause the music is f'n awesome...

It also depends on where you are in the club. Different parts of the club have different sound quality. Walk around and find the area of the club where it sounds best to you. Usually somewhere in the centre of the floor.

For me lounges have a nice balanced sound ... not too loud, but not too soft. A bit louder than lounges, I don't mind either.

And for me, I've yet to be in a club with a crisp sound ... this is because most clubs have such strong bass, or the system pumps out so many decibels, your inner ear closes up a bit, and the sound becomes muffled. I forgot the biological explanation of it, but it's an adaptive technique that the ear uses to prevent damage. And coming out of the club with ringing in your ears is not normal ... that's just damaging to your ears. Plus, most some clubs just have an awful setup, where the bass often gets distorted, or the mids and highs sound really bad, and fuzzy. The new Docks system, I admit is crisp, has crisp bass, BUT, it's just so LOUD, 100,000 Watts I think, that's just overkill. Without earplugs, your ears close up, and the sound becomes muffled, defeating the purpose of having such a crisp system. And ear plugs kind of ruin the experience, but some people have no choice. I think it would do a lot of good for clubs to position lots fo small speakers around the club, and renovate the club for better acoustics. Most clubs simply have gigantic speakers at each corner, and that's about it. I mean, say it's completely jammed at a club, and some people are forced do dance right next to that gigantic speaker . Having more speakers, and smaller speakers I think allows better dispersion of the sound, so the sound is the same no matter where you are in the club. I see more and more clubs are starting to incorporate lounges into their complexes, which is a good thing, say if you just want to rest, or relax, go to the lounge, and when you're good to go, just go back into the club side.

Just as an example, at Sensation, in Amsterdam Arena, they hooked up lots of small speakers on the roof/ceiling structure, and only had a few gigantosarauses on the dance floor. It's ironic, in Europe, at indoor air parties like Sensation, some people actually complain that the sound is too weak. Here in Canada, it seems we have the opposite complaints.

Some of you may disagree with me, but this is people's health we're talking about. Just as a side note, I heard that the rule of thumb is, if you're in a club, talking to your friend who's standing right beside you ... and he/she can't hear you, then it's considered to loud.

why do i have a feeling the government will pass legislation like this some day? My theory on sound is that if you can hear the person talking next to you then that person shouldnt be talking. ITS A DANCE CLUB! LOL

Posted by Dark_Archonis on Jan-23-2005 21:21:

Well I would like a dance club that doesn't damage my hearing.

Thank you for your input.System tunning will be addressed more often to make sure Viva delivers the highest quality party (sound/lighthings/djs/music/vibe) in Toronto's after hour scene.

Awesome . Were you by any chance one of the DJ's who performed before Talla? Some great tracks were dropped before Talla came on.

I couldn't agree more with his assessment of the sound quality in Viva. I can go out the Guvernment without earplugs and usually make out pretty well with my ears still intact. But Viva has a few spots where the sound just ripples my eardrum. Obviously enough, it's right in front of/under the bass speakers.

I love the sound at System Soundbar in the front lounge, it's loud, but not so obscene that I'm leaving with my hands over my ears like I had to do a few times at Viva before I got some earplugs. Even the main room is great.

It honestly is incredibly loud in Viva, much louder than it needs to be in such a small space, and wearing earplugs ruins the mids and highs in the trance that I love so much (and is the reason I've skipped a few nights in favour of getting smushed into the Guv, where I don't need earplugs). I think a club is loud enough when you need to yell to be heard.

As a suggestion, not a complaint, I'd absolutely love it if the sound was toned down a bit, and would make it out much more often than I currently do. The opinion of just one customer doesn't usually mean much when it's something that affects ALL patrons like quality of sound. But, I DO feel that the sound is a little overboard in Viva.

agreed happens in every club!

well i realised a lot of things after partying for 3 yrs.

Posted by maxpain on Jan-24-2005 08:24:

After my first 2 or 3 trips to VIVA I kinda got used to it and tried to avoid standing right next to a big speaker all night

VIVA's sound system is still arguably the best around and easily top 4 amongst THE GUVERNMENT, BOA and THE DOCKS when it comes to sound systems overall
