i cut kick frequencies tween 130-150 hz, and maybe 250-300. maybe even boost at like 51 with a small q... and highpass everything under 35. sometimes i highpass higher if i have a deeeeep bassline, i'll HP the kick up around 80, as scott suggested.
compression ratios are useful, but watch the amount of gain reduction. a high threshold could change the whole scenario, so experiment with ratio and threshhold, while watching the gain reduction meters. and the release. you need a fairly fast compression release for kicks to make them punch. say 15-35 ms. experiment.
start with a good sourse sample even if you gotta sample it from a record. those kicks are all nicely compressed and eq'ed so you may have a way to get a headstart on it...
i cant hear the track here, but i thought i'd throw in some info that comes to mind. somebody will probably correct me as i am pretty ghetto in my production techniques!

Yeah, listen to Noel. He has a lot of valid points. One thing to watch out for is that even if you DO sample a kick or any drums, for that matter, from a record, it may or may not always fit your track. So you may have to try a different EQ techniques to make that sample fit properly.
There's no one-kick-fits-all. Even if you did sample it from a well produced song, it might be a very bad kick for the song (I know from experience [sometimes a kick might really kick ass in one song and in the next song I use the same kick and Edgar's telling me it sucks and to change it]. Experiment with kicks. Try combining different kicks and different effects on those kicks.

EDIT: I also fixed the kick, the percussion, and varied the melody just a tiny bit more. I'm just waiting on it to get online again.
the kick needs work... make the envolope of the sample shorter... it doesn't need to be that long IMO... and layer it with a brighter midrangey kick... so there's some punch... since this kick just eats up most of the lowend
The bassline also needs work... it's too midrangey... try cutting the mids and boosting the lows... goa basslines are deep and you can feel them in your gut.
i wouldnt' say this track is goa.. nor dark trance... and I wouldn't say traffic is dark trance either.. Traffic is an obvious anthem trance track... like Darude - Sandstorm or something... it's anthem trance.
If you're going for Goa, think Astral Projection, Aphid Moon, Infected Mushroom
If you're doing dark trance... think more Haak, De Niro, Plastic Angel

Kicks don't always require a lot of compression... sometimes a lot can be bad for the kick and that could flatten it out and lose all punch in it... only compress things if you want the dynamic range to be smaller.

The reason I think the kicks sucked is that I messed with the mixer's equilzer... shame shame shame on me

I guess he has a point. I would change it not to be confused with George Acosta, that's the only reason your friends say it sounds like a producer name.
