I wonder how the platter works...do you put on a vinyl record for cd playback (a slipmat doesn't imitate vinyl very well).

In both analog (vinyl) and digital (CD) modes, DJs are provided with a variable pitch control, with selectable ranges of 4, 8, 16, or 50 percent, along with pitch bend function as well as master tempo. Additionally, 3 DSP effects (Filter, Zoom, and Echo) with variable parameter and a forward/reverse switch can be accessed in either mode

I'd say get rid of that shit. (KISS)Keep It Simple Stupid. Too many dials and bs will just get in the way. One button for CD/Deck, maybe at a push reverse, pitch bend maybe..., pitch fader (set at say 10%). No more clutter, just simple. Effects are fine on a seprate unit or if done well on a mixer (mine a PDD01 does it okish some are just shit, never use emm really, and they get in the way though).

I say forget the pish and make it work well simply.

Found this posted by one of Geminis people over at Skratchworx.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the positive comments.

Just to let you know, all new product design at Gemini is now being done by a team of DJs who know.

The CDT-05 will be everything that it appears to be. A prototype will be at the NAMM show, but you have my word that it will be fine tuned, refined, and all the bugs worked out prior to shipping!

Gotta love Gemini. I really hope these do kick some serious ass. Nice to see them finally jump in with the Big Boys.

I think Pioneer has another company, but its a Home Theater company, called Elite or something.

they both start with a P, thats close enough for me

In reality, it's most likely gonna suck. Vinyl playback may be compromised from emi from the electronics, and cd scratchability may be compromised by poor implementation of the platter. It's gonna be like american dj w/ their digi-scratch hardware i just feel it.

the proof of the pudding is in the eating.. it may well be supersmashingfantastic

+1 on that... something or another is bound to have a fault so i suppose we'll see how much effort gemini put into making this first model

Posted by Luke Cartwright on Jan-12-2005 21:03:

I can't believe gemini are the first to put this into action, wtf.

I have never been impressed with any gemini tt, but updates and new technology can fix bugs nowadays so I think it should be fairly solid anyhows.

This is good for the tt industry tho someone had to do it and now others should follow suit, things usually get better and better with time so lets wait and see what the big boys have to offer.

I don't think I'd consider buying this though, purely for the fact that its gemini, and in my experiences they are wank.

Posted by D Dubya on Jan-12-2005 21:41:

I'd rather not.... I doubt this thing is going to hold up. It reminds me too much of the DJ packages where they throw two turntables and a mixer all into one which effectively creates one large piece of shit that when something breaks, everything is broken. I will stick to individual components -- thanks.

Posted by Greedy on Jan-13-2005 08:32:

im not surprised gemini brought this up. ANY company can pump out a bunch of cool hybrids but doesnt mean it wont be shit.

Posted by tu_face on Jan-13-2005 09:43:

the fact of the matter is this: its about fucking time. yes any company could do this, but its been long awaited. gemini arn't a totally shit company, granted they have a couple of pants products but on the whole, for the price you pay their gear ain't bad at all. as this is modeled on their new high-torque deck (tt05, which by the specs looks fantastic) then the turntable section of it at least should be good.

the whole point of this thing, is more to do with the fact that it has opened the door for other companies to follow suit should it work well. technics certainly won't put their neck on the line over something like this, they have a reputation to think about (stupid cunts ), and vestax are too busy making upside-down decks and shit so its left to companies like gemini to point the big guys in the right direction.

the day a hybrid deck comes out where you can play off both mediums in the same unit, THEN i will want one!

that's my favorite part right there

Posted by DjVash on Jan-13-2005 12:32:

I doubt if it will work.

I have no doubt that it will work, but i'm still not convinced about the practical issues of a thing like that.

I think it would not be practical to use, considering the fact that you can not use both players at the same time. That would kind of destroy the use of a thing like that, because you would still need 4 of them to get the same compatibility as you would have with a normal setup (2 Technics, 2 Pioneers).

Posted by Nemesis44 on Jan-13-2005 18:45:

It may be great but for the way I DJ it wouldn't be practical.
Presumably someting that has functions combined would mean that you would only be able to use one at a time. I suppose the answer would be to have three .

Still will be interesting to see what happens but not sure what will come of it but time will tell.

Cheers
Nem

technics will come out with an all diamond covered "anniversary" turntable before they come out with something innovative

Posted by DjArTiN! on Jan-15-2005 03:58:

that's pretty cool. I got to give them credit for doing something good for once.
