it's too bad that greed is such an integral part of human-nature......anyways......my feeling is that the music......in my case trance- represents a state- where money and power are impotent......where hate; and segregation; and jealousy; are over-come........
everythign comes full circle......those who abuse their position with respect to music; are not true to the music; as far as I'm concerned; at some point the score is settled........maybe not here.......
but somewhere.......I hope.

I do my part by not supporting those dj's whom I believe are doing this.

peace

PLEASE DON'T KILL ME but i'd say the over rated would be all dutch dj's like Corsten, Gielen or Tiesto who should return in their studio...

Are u kidding ? Sanchez is one of the most innovative and brilliant house Dj's around...i'd rank him up there with Tenaglia, Howells and the nu-breed crew (Lawler and Pappa).

I'd have to say JJ (The Judge) as most over rated DJ, although I have to admit I haven't heard his latest set so maybe i'm wrong about this.

Talking

Overated Deejays eh, well armand van helden ranks up there, tall paul is full of himself and overated and judge jules and currently Paul Oakenfold, the guy used to be the greatest damn deejay on the earth and now he has lost it completely and he is soooooooooooo overrated.

Not a bad idea.
You see, they somehow got all caught up in the hype and touring and DJ'ing, whereas they should really get their asses back to the studio and start working on some QUALITY NEW TRANCE TUNES.

Tiesto, it must be pretty hard writing new stuff with such a busy schedule, give us something better than your "progressive outings"... We know that flights inspire you, and so do trains, but channel your energy into something more interesting and emotional

Digweed and Sasha r very similar bro but u got a point there, Digweed's stuff tends 2 get boring and i know dat, da thing is Digweed's remixes r always amazing, ex. Way Out West - The Fall (Bedrock Vocal Mix) sick remix bro, i find dat most of Digweed's sets r more banging den his cd's, as 4 Sasha some of his sets r sooo boring, but Sasha has better cd's den Diggers...i rate Digweed and Sasha high coz there underground, not commercial, they always spin something new, not like every other dj there is right now, so wat i can say, i like dem both

If he's born and raised in Belgium, that makes him Belgian, doesn't it?

I personally think Oakie is overrated, I know alot of people regained some respect for him after his EM, but to be honest that EM didn't do it for me. He played alot of older songs, and that's exactly what he gets bashed for. Not to mention when he mixed into PPK, that was not the best mix. Oakie = Overrated.

I also think Scott Bond and JFK both get a hell of alot more credit than they deserve.

MAN..... Scott Bond is amazing!!!

Try Trance Energy 2001 set by Scott Bond and tell me what you think??

Posted by ABTsportsline on Nov-03-2001 01:42:

I think a lot of people are confusing "overrated" with "enjoying the music style" or "track selection".....

Just because a DJ doesn't spin tracks you like, or a style you like, doesn't mean he's "overrated".

If you wanted to just list DJ's you don't like, then we could start a "DJ's you don't like" thread.

Everyone says that Oakey is "overrated"..... how is he overrated? I NEVER hear anyone raving about him.... only bashing. If memory serves me correctly, when someone is constantly getting bashed, HOW can they be overrated? Just my opinion on that one.

Scott Bond, Digweed, et. al. can't all be overrated... Because outside of TA most people haven't even HEARD of them...

You know whats overrated? NSync, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, etc... THATS overrated.

I think that if someone has to be overrated , that means that they are constantly being talked about (i.e. people always have only good things to say about so-and-so....)

I can't say that Marco V is overrated b/c very seldom does he come up in conversation on these boards... to top that off, he has a LOT of great livesets, and almost every production he's made rocks!

Someone calling Gielen overrated is false i think as well.... Gielen almost never gets talked about on here... maybe once in awhile when his new production comes out, there might be a thread or two on it. But again, he's got the livesets to back it up, and the productions to back it up. Remember being "overrated" means you are hyped up, but haven't shown anything for it. I've never been let down by Gielen yet....

Ferry Corsten i could see how he's considered "overrated", b/c he's always talked about on here.... but he's GOOD..... he's got the stuff to back it up!!

Paul Van Dyk i could definitely see how he'd be "overrated", but who's got the balls to come on here and say it? Half of the TA members have some reference to PvD either in their sig, avatar, or TA name... and half think he's god. Constantly, you hear people RAVING about him on here..... and the PvD fans are the most harsh when it comes to criticizing others. You can't go 2 threads without hearing his name mentioned.... if you ask me, THAT is being overrated...

...and keep in mind, the scenes are TOTALLY different in each country... what may be overrated for one person, another may have never heard of them... So yes, all of my statements come from a USA perspective, and how the "trance scene" is over here (almost non-existent). So thats what i'm basing my arguement on..... based on TA exposure, our own little country on here...

I can easily see how some of you can consider Jules to be "overrated" and likewise with Oakey.... overseas. But here? no.

But hey, to each his own.

Cheers

that's simply not true at all
EVERYONE is raving about Oakenfold. Go to amazon.com and read the reviews for all his albums, for example, and you'll constantly see people refer to him as "god" and worship him like crazy. Even my friends who aren't into trance/dance have heard about Oakenfold and gone to his performances.

I'm amazed that you made such a comment, it's simply ridiculous, for the EXACT OPPOSITE is true !

Ok buck-o! Let me re-iterate what i already posted:

Honestly, you can't go by what you read on "amazon.com".... read reviews of ANYONE on there...... the only people who respond are the ones who are ridiculously over-enthusiastic. I bet you didn't look at the PvD reviews though, did you? And just because a friend who doesn't like trance has "heard" about him doesn't mean that he's overrated. Publicity and exposure isn't always good. Look at Milli Vanilli.... i can guarantee almost EVERYONE has heard of them. Do you think they're overrated? How about Brooks & Dunn...? Ever heard of them? Dolly Parton? .... Doesn't mean their overrated.

there is a fine line between "being famous" and being "overrated". But i'm not going to get dragged into an arguement about this... its all based on opinions anyway. You can have yours, i can have mine.

Well..seems like I have the balls...'cause to me PAUL VAN DYK "THE GOD" (what a joke) is the only overated thing out there.

keep in mind.. THIS IS MY OPINION.!

heh overrated is such a mis-used word nowadays don't you think?

Posted by Kia Kaha on Nov-03-2001 19:29:

I'll give you over-rated - John Digweed winning the DJ mag top 100 poll! And beating Sasha, Oakenfold, PvD, Tiesto and Picotto in the process! Any of those five guys could play a better mix than Digweed, with a thrashed Radio Shack walkman and one hand tied behind their backs

I don't dislike Digweed as such, I reckon he's a OK, workmanlike prog DJ who's been around the scene a bit longer than most, but I just don't feel any emotion from his DJ sets or his productions at all. He wouldn't even make my top 50, he's just so blaaahhhhh

Yah someone posted the full top 100 on here day before yesterday, I think it vanished in the server crash.

I can't be arsed to type the whole 100 out, but here's the top 10 for y'all :

1 John Digweed
2 Sasha
3 Danny Tenaglia
4 Paul van Dyk
5 Paul Oakenfold
6 DJ Tiesto
7 Carl Cox
8 Mauro Picotto
9 Steve Lawler
10 Deep Dish

^^^^^^
DEEP DISH in the top 10 DJ's in the world??!! ... someone at DJ magazine must be doing a favour for their mates or something ....

Oh yeah, and they rated Judge Jules (11) higher than Ferry Corsten (18) ... WTF???

lol, i'm laughing because that's the most ridiculous comment i have ever read. Digweed is over-rated !!!! Come one dude, Diggers is without a doubt the best technical DJ in the world. You probably don't like progressive trance and that's why u think that he's sets are boring. Diggers and Sasha should both be #1 because they are true pioneers in the scene, they play tunes months before other wannabe DJ's get them and the stuff that they are spinning today will be the tunes that other DJ's will be bangin to death a few months later. To say that Diggers won't make the top 50 shows how much u know about music and about DJ'ing. It's not all about playing the epic stuff u know, set construction and mixing are important too...and diggers excels at both. Then again u probably don't agree...so what's the point.

Diggers is #1 because he is a great DJ. His mixing is second to none (yeah not even PVD or Tiesto hold a candle to it), his sets might seem boring to the average listener but to people who love progressive sounds, Diggers is GOD !!!!
