Cyprus is Greek, but the Muslims are trying to take it over.
edit: my favourite thing about Cyprus:

So, you would rather have the dish be "more authentic" without the fries than have it with the fries making a better tasting meal?
Please.
There's that late-night place on the corner of Logan and Danforth that uses real chunks of meat too, but I find their gyros to be VERY GREASYYYYYY!!!!!!! And all the other places used that combo- meat slice stuff that isn't visually appealing. I will try this place next time.

Go just about anywhere in greece today and order a gyro and they will always add chips (unless you ask otherwise)
So yes, chips in your gyro is authentic modern greek gyros.
PS: shut it... you are all canadian!

At some falafel stands in Israel, u can get chips in your falafel too. It was good at 1st, but who needs all those carbs? lol
I'm sure it's very tastey.
lol I just HIGHLY doubt it's authenticity.

Ew.
That's where we differ. I look at authentic as being something has a specific origin somewhere and is done only in that style. (As it was originally done when that product or dish was created). IE how you mentioned the hamburger. You look as authentic as being that culture's take on a traditional dish or food either from that same country or another one. (ie the US's take on their "authentic" verions of a hamburg steak or hamburger). I tend to look at authentic as being the definition that I mentioned. Bah, no more debating...

(from a political standpoint, from what I know anyway). If it were Greek we would have a Greek flag. Its background and heritage and language ARE Greek however. P.S. YES the women there are hot... |

The only reason why it didn't join in the 70's was because of the Turkish/Muslim invasion. The West could have prevented it, or reversed it, but they didn't want to upset Turkey, who was a key cold war ally. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Way better than Italian IMO. |

| Originally posted by Jayx1 it does if its now part of their culture just as what we call "canadian food" or "american food" (same thing) is really taken from german origins (hamburger) and belgian/french (french fries) yet we claim them to be authentic north american. You get chips in your gyro in Greece almost everywhere now and these places are serving greeks which therefore makes it authentic modern day greek food. |

tasty snack:
-1 Mr. Pita Greek-style pita, lightly toasted (in the blue bag)
-1 tomato, sliced
-extra virgin olive oil (preferably Italian
)
-crumbled feta (I prefer cow's milk feta, but what ever works)
-oregano (Italian-style... I use a ton of it)
-a bit of salt and pepper
place ingrediants on pita and fold... voila.. quick Greek/Italian snack
