I'll make the argument that playing a musical instrument helps develop a sense of rhythm, timing, etc, which definitely helps if you DJ.

Couldn't have said it better, but if you want to be a famous dj you need connections and an ambitious personality, meaning you have to stick your name every where possible and find catchy promotions for your mixes (or sometimes use some else's mix and say its yours). The good thing at the moment is that a lot of people still believe that djs have super special talent, but those of us who have tried it at least once know that is a pile of bull crap.

Look at it this way, do you really want to stand there and mix songs or would you rather be in the crowd dancing with a beautiful girl. I am going for option #2 on this one. There are a million other good ways to make money in this world other than djing.

i just dont say anything umm think why u r here then ?

The only things you need are ears that are not tone deaf. Anything else is up to you.

Hi:
Well I am going to start as well and Ill be needing allot of help here, But what I want to actually do is start with the really basic and normal set and then when I got used to some skills and found my way around Djing and actually became someone who understands what it takes to be a Dj in 1-2 years I get a real and proper kit,
So basically what I am asking for here is can anyone tell me/us what a good enough really basic gear can be to START it off!!!

Ive done a little search on the net and found some deals which dont look that bad. Was wondering if you could check them out and let me know what you think of them, because I went looking for technics Turntables first and I found it abet 2 much to start with! But maybe I am wrong, guide me!

Check these deals out please:
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/pac...xmaster2package
Was thinking this for speakers:
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/pac...ks/x1_gsm12_kit

But this one seems to include them all with less power in speakers and built in amp but hell allot cheaper!!!
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/pac...eginners?show=3

But again was thinking we can get the speaker and amp sets second hand really cheaper, dont you think? Because they are what actually double the price!!!

Waiting on your reply, Oh by the way this is my first post in here, so HI

then what makes a DJ on the level of PVD, tiesto, etc.? it's the production isnt it?

i know some places sell DJ sets, with all the basics u need to mix. how much do they cost if anybody knowS?

To get to the level of PVD and Tiesto you need DJ skills, an ear for great tracks, great managment and PR, production skills, and most importantly luck.

the first step to DJing is to come up with a name that will be like totally cool. I suggest "DJ Slain" or "NialsJD" or "DJSaline"
Next, you have to go to your local walmart and think of a perfect investment of gel or hair styling material. You will need about 4 pounds of it a night, so get something that will get you the big spikes, but is affordable for 32 days a month.
Next, watch the movie castaway and learn about perfect dental care, which means just eat rocks or throw ice skates in your mouth, make them as messed up as u can.
half way there!

agreed....also check out Numark. yeah they're not the greatest but i bought my Numark Battle Pak for 300 dollars. had 2 direct drive numark tt1625's, a 2chan mixer with 2 band eq, numark headphones, and 2 cartridges/needles. perfect. used it for about 2 years till my friend sold me his 1 month old technics (the fool!)

the amount of clueless twats posting in this thread is ridiculous. djing is not "a piece of piss". if you want to be a good DJ its actually very hard to perfect a mix, to perfect your sound, and generally be different. it takes years of practice to be able to DJ to a standard that you are used to hearing in a liveset.

ignore this thread. if you want serious advice, go to the dj booth forum ( http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...hp?s=&forumid=8 ), don't listen to the shite posted in here.

Agreed bud, Thakns!
Not trying to be funny though but,Sometimes it just makes me wonder why the hell are some of these idiots here if all they do is taking a piss! just to make your posts up to 4000 ? get a life!

Peace

What you said is more or less correct for someone who wants to have perfect mixing. But what is perfect mixing? Everyone has a different opinion on that. Have you seen threads like Which dj has the best mixing skills, did everyone mention the same dj, obviously not, because its all a matter of taste.

Out of a million people who listen to EDM and regularly go to concerts only like 0.001% care about the mixing, let alone little sound details that you are talking about. Most people just like to get drunk and dance to good tracks preferably mixed by a dj who they have seen on tv or in various surveys like djmag.

Making perfect mixes with absolutely no mistakes is totally different from being famous. You have no idea how corrupt the road to fame is. You think Tiesto became famous because of his mixing and production skills? Obviously not, take some communication and marketing classes and you will find out how its done in the real world. His name was being circulated everywhere possible, I even saw a show on CNN about Tiesto. Today people will go to see him even if he doesnt mix his tracks, even if he plays shitty tracks, because he is Tiesto.

If you dont agree with what I said than good luck staying a shitty bedroom dj your whole life, and have fun doing what you like. I know a dj who cant mix for shit, but he got a residence in a club just because there was a tv show about him, and how did he get on the tv show when he cant mix, the answer is simple, his dad works there. And a final note here, the only hard thing about starting djing is buying the equipment because its expensive.

Would I assume correctly that you either: Don't dj at all, or have never djed a decent venue in your life?

Even though they cost more, get some technics. It's better to spend the money now and not have to replace them later. It will be a hell of a lot easier for you to learn with consistent, quality decks. There is nothing I hate more than to show up at some lame house party, get asked to play, and they have some belt-driven NuMark tables. You queue the record and it hesitates before it starts spinning. Annoying.

well to be honest I done a little search on the internet for Technics and they are a bit to expensive to start I would say, well for the budget I got at least, they kind of are out of my league for now, I only want to start with something reliable and OK till I get to know more about DJing then spend a big money on a proper set after a year or 2!
By the sound of it you all agree that I shouldnt be considering Numark!!!
Take a little trip to www.decks.co.uk/ or any other good websites that you know of (leave the link please) and let me know what would be your second/third choices???
Thanks!
