Didn't the Macedonians ally with Persia in the 5th Century BC to help fight the rest of Greece, and then got their ass kicked along with the rest of Xerxes' army?

Well if you managed to steal a name to feel that you have some heritage then I guess you can feel Macedonian. The fact is that you have absolutely no relationship at all with the ancient Macedonians. No bloodline, no common language, nothing. Sorry, but it's more reasonable for an American to say that he feels Portuguese because his great grand father came from Portugal in the 1490's than you to say you're Macedonian.

If you ask someone from Athens if he's Macedonian well I suppose he'll say no. If you go in California and ask someone if he's Californian he'll probably say I'm American.
a)maybe because he lives there for 5 years and not originally from there.
b)because the term American is more inclusive.

If you ask me where both my grandfathers have their roots in Macedonia (Veroia-near Vergina where the capital of Alexander's time was and Serres) I'll say yes.
