ok, i started out the nite grabbing an echo mia midi sound card from my cousin for $50 bucks so, so far things were looking good. we left his place and got to the drink entrance about 11:10. BIGGEST BULLSHIT IN MY LIFE. we go through the drink all the time and have never experienced this shit. i felt like i was at a club from the top 40 days. we ended up waiting an hour to get in, in a not so long line because of the bullshit, and when we get to the front they wouldn't even give us the free tickets because 'guestlist had closed.' normally it wouldn't be a big deal, seeing scumfrog and dumonde for 15 bucks is nothing bad, but after going through that bullshit, you want every benifit in the book.

so things started off bad and my girlfriend thinking she had frost bite on her toes because she wasn't wearing socks and thin shoes. We just tried to dance it off and let it behind us though. We Caught Dave Ralphs set. wasn't bad, nothing spectacular though. Then just decided to go back to the drink for some house music until the big names came on. i was a little disappointed scumfrog didn't come on til 3am. but his set was really cool and was enjoying it...i really wanted to catch dumonde though, so we only stayed til 330 and went to kool haus. infected mushroom was still on, and damn did they suck. the little interludes b4 the drum beats were cool, but when those drumbeats started playing i just wanted to go on stage and turn that bass boost down, the bass was so damn deep it was annoying to listen to.

anyways dumonde came on around 3:45 i guess, and they played great tracks. I loved hearing Airscape - Sosei (f&w mix i think?) but a lot of joy was taken from there set becasue of the bad tweaking in the sound system. the sound was so airy and blended all the frequencies together making it very non-enjoyable (i don't know if it was just where i was standing, but i wasn't impressed) so i couldn't only take about an hour, because my girlfriend wasn't digging it that much, and then we stayed for more of scumfrogs set and left around 5:30.

Overall, not as good a nite as i had hoped. To bad dumonde wasn't on a better sound system. Still pretty good though, i think i'm done with guvernment for some time though, don't have any desire to go back til probably armin in march. Hopefully kai tracid/matt hardwick will bring back the clubbing spirit.

What can I say that hasn't been already said....last night was awesome! It was great seeing all of you again and meeting some new people. I always have a blast with TA's

This was my first time seeing Dumonde live, and they definately didn't disappoint. As RJ says, it was definate "uber trance" They were having so much fun. You could definately tell they love what they are doing.

Can't wait to hear your interview Barry

I didnt brave the sardine can of guv, so I cant speak to scumfrogs set, but I almost wish I had.

I thought dave ralph was wickedly sick. he was my fave set of the night.
plump djs-scram oh shit..mm phat bass.
anyways, IM was good and I thought Dumonde was severly lacking. I left around 5 because Dumonde just wasnt doing it for me.

i rate it "very above average" Maybe I just wasnt up for it.
whats the problem here!!! is people a wee bit spoiled in toronto.

Thumbs up

So this is my first review on a party that I actually had time to post. The night started off by me and my friend (paradox) arriving just before 2. Lineup went fast and we parked for free at the LCBO. We said screw coatcheck since it was unusually mild.

Walked in, MO was playing some dirty tracks. Guv was packed as usual, but not overally packed like @ Tiesto. The whole setup was kinda weird and it put a bummer on things. The smoking room was rammed, orange room was playing gay hiphop that we were forced to listen to since that was the only place to sit, and the acid lounge was just a big sketch scene.

Anyways, being it our first time to GUV on an all access event, we wern't exactly sure how to get to the KH, and we thought for the longest time that the orange room was it but I knew something was up with that and I spotted the entrace to the KH all the way in the back.

We walk in, IM was starting up. I needed to hear exactly what they were spinning, some banging psy-trance to get me going. The vocals at the end were an interesting touch. It was just hard pumping tunes that had everyone dancing. I've never heard/seen them before but I won't be sure to miss out next time they roll through.

We decided around 3:30 to head back to guv to catch some scum frog. Anyone that was complaining about the sound in the KH has nothing to say after hearing the guv's shitty setup. It must of been half as loud and the treble was no where near as crisp as the KH's. Anyways, we left after 2 minutes so we didn't get a chance to see any of his set which was a shame because I was rather keen on hearing some of the legendary shit he spins.

So it's close to 4, Dumonde is setting up as IM finishes, and there are tons of homo's runnning around stage with their shirts off and waving flags in the air. Honestly get a life, nobody gives a shit and nobody paid 20$ to see your scrony ass run around like a goof.

Anyways, Dumonde gets going, although they did seem to have a problem with the equipment right from the start and I think the second song wasn't mixed properly. But they kept it going, and after the first few songs I knew they had a killer set in store for us.

They first hour of their set was aboslutely incredible. Awsome hard pumping trance that made your head want to explode from how much you were bobbing it. Me and my buddy were the 2 guys dead center for the whole set. The crowd interaction is what did it for us. He must of come around 5 times, first with champagne, then he poured us some gin and tonics's, took our request to hear running, made fun of the security for being such an ogre, and generally made the night as enjoyable as possible.

I found the first hour to be the best, lots of banging trance. The second was also insanse, but near the end it slowed down a little. I asked him to end with running and he did, but then the encore came and they finished the set with never turn back. I had an nice convo with the guy next with me with the chin stud. Sorry I didn't get your name, you told me you posted on TA and told me about your gig at system in February.

With the exception of a few things here and there, the night proved to be amazing. Dumonde definately stole the show in the KH and their awsome music and great crowd interaction is what makes them amazing.

Ohh btw, Karim I saw you, you were the guy taking all the pictures. I think there might be one of me and my buddy there, I was wearing a black t-shirt with a white undershirt and my buddy next to me had a blue dress shirt on. You don't have to post it, I looked cracked out

See you all nex time

4am timeslot for dumonde?

what the fucking hell.

Why couldn't they have played earlier?

Anyhow, decent party....

Didn't meet any of you people, but whatever. I was there to enjoy some pre birthday beats, and for the most part, I had a goodtime and for $15, so I can't complain. IM was ok.... I'm not too fond of their track selection, it would be nice if the guv brought in other psy acts besides IM and/or Astral....

But set of the night for me goes to Dave Ralph, the man plays everything!

Posted by big_charm on Jan-30-2005 19:38:

Great time indeed !!! First time seeing Infected Mushroom and Dumonde live. Awesome night except for the end...damn Fucking Red Bull put my stomache in nots

I also thought because Dumond's set was pretty hard that they should have played near the starting of the night.... I for one was going full out until about 5ish..then I hat to sit and let my stomach cool off

Hey at least the flag waving Jewnos are having fun and arent afraid to show it!!

The problem is that i dont think they are there for the music so much as the fact that the group is from israel. False pride in my opinion but hey to each their own. I was waving my Canadian flag at Creamfields Buenos Aires and there were no Canadian DJs and people were all holding onto it with me and thought it was the coolest thing. In fact my flag got me an interview on National tv!! So dont be hating on others expressing themselves. Thats not what dance music culture is supposed to be about.

Dancing Dude Very festive evening

I got the Koolhaus kinda early thinking there was gonna be a line-up outside AND the dealing with coatcheck.Well I got there at 10:30pm and there was no lineup at all which I thought was strange but whatever...I was on Scumfrog's guestlist and MUST thank Nat (Tatgirl) for this...thank you SOO much ...Well once inside, I got rid of my coat & walked into the Koolhaus and there was like maybe 5 people in there.I said hi to Deko-ze & just walked around a bit.I checked out the "new" Orange Room and MAN they really did a great job with this room.Awesome decor but hip hop is NOT my thing.

Well as the nite progressed I started to meet up with tons of people that I knew AND it was great to see/meet some more TAs like:

Spam...dude you rock I had fun hangin with ya
Tordan (aka Ben)...as always its great to see you
the_broad...I forget your name but happy to have finally met you
AwakenedAddict...So YOU'RE the guy with that kickass avatar

Highroller...WE're you sneakin some "Melbourne Shuffle" moves there boy
Irish Graham...Thanx SO much for sneaking me into the DJ booth in the Guv dude.I got to meet Scumfrog & enjoy a few minutes of his set in the booth.Actually my first time EVER in that booth in all the years I've been at the Guv...DAMN I wish I had brought my camera

Mark T...Good seein you & your crew there along with Brian & Sedgerick (sp?)

Didginut...I was really glad to meet you dude and finally put a face to the name

Dallastar...I ended up giving that "bullet" shaped thingy to the cops.I just didn't want to screw around with it so once I left I gave it a really HOT female cop

drgoodvibe...Man I almost forgot about ya...Thanx SO much for taking some pix of me & fellow TAs...THAT is a sweetass camera you have too

Of course I also ran into my liquid crew Randy & Steve & also met some more liquid dancers & it was awesome to "play" with them.

Anyway I found that I had NO trouble getting around throughout the entire complex which was a nice change. The Guv was packed BUT i've been to worse events for overcrowding. The koolhaus had TONS of room to move around & I just LOVED it.

As for the DJs....Deko-ze was great & so was Addy.Dave Ralph mixed it up real good & I like some of the funky beats as well.I'm not an Infected Mushroom fan so I went to the Guv to hear a bit of Scumfrog. The best time I had was when Dumonde came on.I heard these guys @ The Docks & last nite they rocked.MAN I danced my ASS off & kick stepped so hard that I was having sore feet but that was not gonna stop me from having fun.Dumonde dropped some wicked tracks & I loved how they interacted with the crowd.I can't wait for these guys to return to Toronto.

Well around 5:30 I was getting tired so I left.Thank God that I don't live far & once home it was straight for the shower & then sleeeeeeeeep.

I hope everyone else made it home safe
