-- Baghdad Mayor: "We will build a statue for Bush. He is the symbol of freedom."
Pages (2): « 1 [2]
Nah Josh - I think you are wrong.
I agree with you in a way - I don't think a statue of Bush is necessary right now.
But if Bush and the Iraqis achieve the dream - say in ten years from now you have a vibrant democratic, politically stable, and economically prosperous Iraq - I think it would be more than nessarcy then to have a statue of Bush, not having one somewhere in Iraq would be insulting quiet frankly.
I think this is an issue of timing.
If you're going to give due credit why should Bush get all of it - especially with such controversy on the methods he used to obtain that "vibrant democratic, politically stable, and economically prosperous Iraq." What about all the American & coalition soldiers, and civilians for that matter working on the rebuilding effort, that gave their lives to aid a cause that didn't directly affect them in the first place? If its a gift that is being sought here I think a more general one is in order like the French did with the Statue of Liberty.
In any case, I doubt such a statue would ever come to fruition. I don't have a great idea on how the people of Iraq view Bush, but if I had to guess, I'd bet my money that they wouldn't be very happy with such a statue.
hehe,
I like it.
