I learned about flipper babies in my social determinants of health class. It was a big thing in North America some time ago because there was this new medicine they were trying to push, so they tested it on mice, and everything was ok. But when they did a triel run on pregnant women, their kids popped out looking like that or even worse, at least this one has arms and hands. Fucking teratogens.

Not drugs but rather some chemicals in the drug that noone knew the effect of yet. Hence the testing on mice first, because mice have something like 2.5% DNA difference from humans, so their reaction is considered to be a pretty good predictor of what's going to happen to humans. But shit, with flipper babies that wasn't good enough though was it.
