I got mad divx movies..(avi) but with different codecs. Does this iriver play divx movies when loading on to it. The 20 or 40 gb version I mean..Maybe not every codec for evey divx out there but good amount?

Posted by jupiterone on Feb-07-2005 04:10:

you can update the firmware by a simple update through usb and change the codec of the avi and buffer and upload them onto the iriver.its all a simple program

What happened to good ol cassette players huh????

Ok, first I'd like to say, who gives a fuck, I own the H320, but I like the look of the Ipod and its nice and simple to use, thats about all I can comment on it, as for the H320, it can play any movies, you have to upgrade to korean firmware (I have 1.25K) and it can play movies that are 1 hour 40minutes long, although some people have reported to have longer movies, if you download Pocket Divx encoder, then you can encode pretty much any movie file to a 268x176 (I think) and it has to be 10fps, this may seem low, but on a screen of this size, its actually perfect.

Anyway, the movie bullshit is just a bonus, the reasons I got this over the Ipod is because of the better battery life, I could do with a portable harddrive and I can record my sets with it since it has an MP3 encoder that goes upto 320K, for battery life, it depends on how you use it and at what bitrate the mp3 is, but I normally only get about 9 hours out of it, but I still haven't killed the battery right down, so it could be longer, I've had the thing flashing that its battery is empty for like an hour after about 8 hours of use, and it still never died, so I dunno how much longer it could last, the screen is fuckin sharp and bright, you could use this thing as a flashlight, it weighs abit for its size, but never bothered me, neither has the extra depth size it has over the Ipod, width and height there basically the same, oh and you can custom design the look of the interface on them if you wanna "be cool".

Anyway, I'd recommend getting a giant boombox and blasting your tunes from atop of your shoulders, let this wonderful music be heard.

the Ipod sucks balls...its hasnt changed since it came out...lets see Ipod play multiple codecs and have optical out...Iriver owns..plays OGG files...the best reasone to get it...and its plug and play...no Itunes program to upload music...it detected as a HD...Ipod is overhyped...
You know its sooo incredible how all these "apple fans" are soooo FUCKING IGNORANT FUCKS...they think everything that apple makes is gold...I am always arguing with them...#($ all you MAC whores...had to get that off my chest...feel much better...

Dude, in all seriousness, you should keep your mouth shut. You sound like a moron. Look at this unresolved anger you have for "MAC whores", maybe you should direct that into something useful, like painting.

On another note, i would say the ipod is the best designed mp3 out there, even though thats all it does. No other players come close to the size of it, except maybe the sony, and the interface is extremely smooth. Im sure the iriver is pretty well off though. If your looking for more bang for your buck, then yeah, go with the iriver.

20GB and thousands of MP3s.......and people still bitch and moan about the "file size"......

Big, fucking deal. I wonder, how many people actually find OGG files, or take the time to convert high quality MP3s to OGG.....FFS, this is NOT a necessity, and when listening to music from crappy portable headphones outside, the difference between mp3 and ogg is barely noticeable.

Go with the Sony, its *THE BEST* HD mp3 player

No, the only nice thing about the ipod is:

scroll wheel and good amp.

thats it. any audiophile will tell you.

the sony beats it in EVERY other aspect.

you wouldnt want to convert mp3 to ogg
both are lossy encryption
maybe thats why u cant tell the diff
but i agree 20 gigs is alot of music either way u cut it

let me clear something up about converting mp3 to ogg...i do it to have double the space on my iriver...and when i convert it i cant tell the diff cuase since ogg's compression is better than mp3 you wont lose the sound quality...now if you do ogg to mp3 then its a diff story....

people are getting greedy.

tell me, with the 15 hours of battery life u get (and more like 12 in reality) of the thousands of songs u got on the iriver, how many of them do u listen to in a week with 12 hour battery life? Hmm? 2 gigs, TOPS, with skipping tracks.....im sure.

I went back to minidisc, the versatility, reliability, and sound quality beats EVERYTHING out there. oh yah, and small size, mines an import

... The you never listen to that much music arguement, It's called "selection."

I'd rather not have to load different music each day onto it. One of the reasons, actually, the main reason i picked up the 60 gig.

"Ok, this set isnt right for my mood, how about this set..." being able to have 56 gigs worth of DJ sets and other tracks is handy. Plus how easy it is to navigate to choose between them is key.

It doesnt play movies, big whoop. I listen to music and dont have much need to watch a movie on such a small screen.

It's overpriced hype. Yeah, but I still love it. I chose to pay the price, that's my decision. And i still get amazing battery life. 17 hours yesterday (you can believe me or not, but that's how long it lasted.) If you don't want to pay the extra and have use for the other features than the iPod is not the way to go, but if you want to listen to music I suggest iPod.

Doesn't work as a hard drive, Kamil can tell you horror stories about it working as a hard drive. I have my computer back-up on mine. How could I do that if it wasn't detected as a hard disk?

Sony PWNS you all!!!!

I don't have the HD3, as i ordered my HD1 way back when and when i got it, the HD3 was announced 3 days later

but if you look at everything, the HD3 is a lot better in the ipod in respects to battery life, size, variety (4 different colours...to some people that matters :P) and has the versatility of being able to play ATRAC and ATRAC3 which is a bonus for ex-Net MD owners

anyway i just recently went shopping for an mp3 player; my computer crashed and i lost a lot of my music so i decided to keep my music separate from my computer. i think im going with the sony too

EDIT: oh yeah forgot to add a question... do any of these mp3 players listed previously have a toggle control or something like that... bc i have a lot of sets that are around 2hrs long and if i want to fast forward through the set (like an hour into it) i want to do it quickly, is this possible?

Posted by getfoul on Feb-08-2005 06:17:

ipod is speed scrolling sensitive. Move your finger on the touchwheel faster, it will scroll faster, Slower will scroll slower. Perfect for sets.
