Rasta

im totally seeing tiesto for magik muzik

no doubt

I did just check him out on Wed night here in NYC at Crobar and his set was pretty much off the fuckin hook! It was real dark & techy. No cheese. If that's any indication of what his sets are going to be like for the rest of the year, then my fellow PVD fans and I are going to have to settle for #2 DJ again at most.

And so is the bragging arrogance that Tiesto is far better than everyone else.

If it helps, I'll delete the post so it doesn't take up space. No big deal.

Like I said in my previous post. Tiesto tore shit up at Crobar and peeps are in for a big treat if he continues to stay with the dark/Tech stuff.

It's all good bro.

No bro. No offense taken at all. I had one too many glasses of wine myself tonight.

Simple answer to your ? of pointing out "bragging Arrogance". Check out the name of the thread. Need I say more?

As far as u being sick over the trainwrecking comments, I feel u on that. It is old. To be completely honest, I think it's sort of a form of ammunition that PVD whores like to use since Paul can't get that #1 spot.

Seriously bro, I'm sure you & I are gonna be chillin alot for WMC. Brian's told me you a one crazy mofo when it comes to partying!! It's gonna be a good time.

I'm not trying to drag this out anymore, really. But the reason the trainwreck comment comes up a lot is that Tiesto wrecks more than a lot of the other upper-eschelon djs. That is simply true. He has other qualities that he excels at, but I don't think anyone will argue that Tiesto is the best dj, technically. And if someone does want to make that argument, I'd be happy to debate the other side.

Again, this wasn't meant to be negative, but to explain why it comes up a lot. I can understand that it gets old to hear the same thing over again, but it's not like he only messes up, once a blue moon on an off night. It happens more consistently (at least more than it should when you're #1 and have been playing for 10+ years). Just my take.

Haven't noticed... but I totally agree with your autocratic way of thinking. I guess you're right, if he's not perfect, he can't be that good. "DAVID, YOU IDIOT!!!" What the hell have I been thinking? You know what, one more mistake by a DJ performing live, and I quit. No more muzik. I guess that's my two cents. No offense, either. Smile people.

See that's a little unfair. I didn't say that he's not any good, because he's not perfect. I said he makes a lot more mistakes, technically than the average headliner. I, honestly, think he's piss-poor technically, but he understands programming and set flow to a T. Since the average ear can't hear as closely, he can get away with sloppy mixing and missed beats. Hell, Oakenfold is the king of covering up his mistakes so that 90-95% of the crowd won't hear most of his mistakes. I just don't think he merits the #1 spot, because the #1 dj should be amazing, both technically and on their track selection. But this conversation is useless, and I shouldn't have even bothered.

I disagree completely. On the other hand though, I also disagree that your post was useless, I appreciate it, and I feel you on the second-to-last sentence. The ranking system is based on popularity, and I think some people take this the wrong way. Tijs definitely blew a mix last June @ Space (totally forgot which track he was trying to mix... doesn't matter), and the music actually stopped for 1.5 seconds, and I suppose he hit play on a CDJ that was ready, and the music kept going ... Seriously though, Oh Well! Corsten last May (CO-RAY-ZEE!!!!) was killing it, and Sweet Sorrow (obviously on CD) cut out 1 minute into the song. Sander had that happen twice two weeks ago . True, that's a hardware problem, different than a mixing problem . Still, my point I was making is you have to recognize what Tiësto brings, and I mean to the whole party. The way I see it, there's a handful of DJ's that truly get it and stand apart from the rest. This one is hard to explain, but it's almost like they'll be juicing it like crazy, and suddenly they're right next to you, asking you how you liked that track, or that mix. It's an intimacy they feel with the crowd, and they catch everyone on the same wavelength. Verwest does it, Kleinenberg definitely does it, Picotto has the mind control thing on lock-down, Edgar does it... there's a few more, but I don't want to upset anyone by excluding any names. To me, the chosen ones are all #1, they understand muzik and communicate it to their fans on a totally different level. Tijs is number one because of a vote, but he is the best because he is Tiësto. daVe

yo Dave. That's a really great description of why Tiesto is #1 to you. That's awesome. For me, if anyone cares, that's the same way I feel about PVD. There's just something in his music, especially when he's on point, that just fockin drives me off the wall. Especially when he gets into the heavy bassline for track after track after track. When he dropped Murder Is The Bass for New Years Eve, it totally blew my mind. Yeah, he's fucked up while mixing during live sets, but what DJ doesn't? They are human.

Drunk

I like it Joey, you get it. And since you mentioned it, DK8 - Murder was definitely a moment on Thanksgiving. But only because Paul dropped it, at that moment. You feel me?!

NiteMer, firstoff, myself, drdave, and the few others that consistently defend tiesto, arent living in some dream world oblivious to the fact that tiesto does have his fair share of technical mishaps. HE DOES...but from the ones ive heard and heard strories of i would say like 50% of the time he was having trouble with the equipment, groupies in the dj booth, or probably too much grey goose. personally ive been to 23 tiesto gigs in my liftime, and i can honestly say ive never once witnessed a COMPLETE trainwreck, but yes i have seen his beatmatching off and some general poor mixing, but nothing i would call a trainwreck, fender benders if you will. im not a dj so i probably dont hear some of the things that you and others who have that hobby do, but i got a pair of learned astute ears imho and know when something is awry. and what im getting at is that overall his mixing has always been pretty clean, not mind blowing, but clean. keep in mind he doesnt use a laptop and some of the other technology out there that could make him better, he still is somewhat "old school". and i will concede, there are probably some nights where he just doesnt give a fuck...oakenfolds mixing is by far the worst of any big name dj out there, i dont even think he cares about mixing at this point, or anything else for that matter, and he doesnt try to cover it up, its just bad.. so i hate to hear the comparisons to tiesto, but oh well. i respect your opinion tho, but the comments are just played out, peace out
