And insurance companies set record profits this year! Waaahoooo.

The problem is that she lives in Brampton, and her workplace is not exactly a bus stop away If nothing comes of this, she'll have to stop driving and move closer to the center of the city, but money is an issue as is, so I don't know how viable the move would actually be.

I got a list of brokers who deal with Kingsway Insurance in Ontario, boy it's quite a big list! 100 pages, found it on the kingsway insurance website. If anyone else is interested, here it is:

true...but when it's people who have at-fault accidents and multiple tickets who are complaining, the sympathy level goes WAY down

(I'm not at all saying that the person in this case is complaining...info was just requested, which is cool...why pay more than you need to pay...but many people in those situation do complain and those are the people who SHOULD be paying a higher premium. The people with whom I sympathize are the ones with a clean record yet see their premiums stay the same, or rise, year after year...that's bullshit).

maybe the place where she got the $600 a month quote just quoted her high to get rid of her.....id def start calling around. 1 at fault and 2 tickets would not result in a premium that high. How long before the tickets drop off?

Profit isn't a dirty word, nor a crime.

Normally I'd agree, but you have to admit it's a *bit* shady when you're talking about an INSURANCE company. Like any other business they're entitled to *some* profit, but huge profits are a clear indication that they overstated their premiums.

Further to that, if an insurance company's rates are hiked every year and yet their profits continue to rise, there is obviously something fishy going on. If they keep making higher profits then it means that the gap between collections and claims is widening - it's statistically impossible to say, in such a case, that the risk factor has actually been going up.

Last time I checked - insurance companies weren't registered charities.

The purpose of any corporation is maximize earnings for shareholders within the scope of the law.

If an insurance company decides to be VERY profitable because of high premiums - so be it. As a policy holder you are not entitled to low premiums, nor are you entitled to dictate how much profit the insurance company should make.

If you don't like the above - then only work with mutuals, that way you'll receive refunds on your policy if the costs were overestimated.

If you don't like corporations making profits (profits that they define themselves) then call your MPP and complain that capitalism doesn't work.

yeah, but you can't go around without an insurance policy... you get pulled over, you're in for a ride. not a fun ride either.

i don't mind the corporations making money, because in most cases you can avoid them, not deal with them, not buy their products/services if you find them too expensive, etc. i dare you to try that with the insurance companies...

the problem is that the consumers are facing an oligarchy where there's not that much competition between companies... and at the end of the year we have to choose a company or get our permit revocked.

Not really fair.

Some companies offer insurance discounts or "third party savings". Rogers does, as does Bell Globemedia. I'm saving 1/2 of what I was paying for house and car insurance. And I have three tickets. No accidents, tho.

*thumbsup*

profits are not the issue...no one complains when car makers or banks turn a profit...so why insurers? So many people feel that they are "entitled" to own a car and pay low insurance premiums, lol.

Obviously the industry needs "fixing"...but I have no problem with companies making a profit. Those profits, btw, are for home and auto insurance, include all companies, and the overall figure provides no breakdown of WHICH companies made a big profit, which did not, and where those profits came from (home, auto, premiums, investment, etc).

Open a mail box in Montreal..Find an insurance company in Montreal, pretend you live there.Get a quebec licence plate.I would say you'll pay 100 a month, worst case scenario. High risk ,or a newbie.

Wouldn't that constitute as insurance fraud?
