Imo GU has slipped a tiny bit but Renaissance has been keeping me happy

It's you.

Melbourne and beyond put me to sleep compared to Moscow and before.

Darren Emerson should do another to give the series a kick in the arse, or one of the other tech-house guys. Enough with this progressive and breaks business already.

Honestly, I think GU 002 was the best double CD in the series until Nick Warren's GU24 came out. GU24 is classic, but GU 002 is still holding up after all these years

I love the GU series, but you couldn't have said it better. I don't get why the label has a fascination with these two genres and shut down fantastic DJs that would give the series a more exclusive status.

I agree with you 100%,

The series has lost what it once had, after a string of very average releases its just lost all of the hype tha GU cds used to have. But if Howells mix is good it could bring a new life to the otherwise dead series (i hope so anyway)......

Probably because Progressive has become so insular and self-directed these days. Rather than being a "dance music" series, GU has turned into a strictly Progressive series.

(Yep, the only ones I've heard )

Not to be anal, but I can't help it: none of those comp's were "Live"

Thats a well known fact. Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposures series sure were mixed in Pro Tools. Doesn't change the fact that they are still classics. The point of the comps is programming rather than mixing

That's just sad, I think. It's as if a band would write their songs and let someone else play their music when recording an album. I don't care if the standard of comps is to sound perfect...it's ridiculous and WE as fans, should not embrace this as the norm for all comps.

Nothing against you man, it's just that this really pisses me off because I feel bigshot DJs are cheating all their fans.

you have a point. but if u want to see your favorite dj in the mix, you would go to the club and watch em spin. These compilations are for your listening enjoyment. Perfect mixing is a prerequisite albeit some of us do feel cheated.

Uhh, I know...but he labelled all those CD's as "live in Ibiza"...I was just clearing it up cause they were all pro-tooled.

No way man...pro-tooling gives the DJ so much more depth to their comp's. You have to remember that when you're in a club listening to their liveset you don't always pick up every little mistake, but at home when you're focusing on the CD, and listening to it more than once, certain mistakes will become more and more apparent and could ruin the "flow" of the CD, which is the most important aspect of a compilation when listening at home. Layering, flow between tracks, etc. Sure, some of the DJ'ing gods can easily do that live, but once they're given the ability to go back and forth and perfect the mix, then it's just a whole different league.

Personally, I'd hate it if Involver wasn't equalized to perfection, and if that 1 beat here and there was a little off. Or if the transitions weren't perfect between the tracks (i.e. he held a track for a bit too long, or created an unnecessary loop, etc)

Not for me, it's u.

Posted by varun on Feb-28-2005 08:27:

Quality of the GU compilations has always fluctuated to some extent.
Fortunately, they have been consistent over the past 2 years.
