And when it comes down to it, it gives DJs a lot of freedom to just prerecord their "live" sets - and we the audience would never know. |

ive probably posted peices of this interview in all the ableton/sasha threads that have been posten in the MD. Still, you can hear what hes up to from sasha himself.

RA: ....So I guess you don't have to beatmatch with the Ableton right? Sasha: You don't have to beatmatch, but I definitely miss beatmatching sometimes. The Ableton is not really a new way of Deejaying, it's more like a new different option of a way of Deejaying and live remixing, kind of a 'mashup' between the Dj and the live artist. But in the end what comes out of the speakers is still a Dj set. There's so many things that I've always wanted to do with my Dj sets, but the technology was limited. With the Ableton Live there are a million things that I'm now able to do, like last week when I was playing at Fabric (12/11/04)..... at one point I was playing six tracks simultaneously. |

Ableton definitely has it's pros, but like most have already said, it's too expensive for any up-and-coming DJ, and for most newcomers it would be way too hard for them to get the samples for each track.
I have no problem if a DJ uses Ableton; if their set kicks ass, great. Having said that, I much rather prefer to watch a DJ mess with vinyls and CDs, and a mixer, as well as myself spin on vinyl and CD.

People are missing the point...lol
Who cares how it looks!? He can play six tracks at the same time and blend them together in ways to make you go nuts...and this is just the beggining...
How many threads have there been now bashing Sasha for using Live and Maven?

WOW! You all (or most) are missing the damn point! DJing in the future will not be anymore about decks or vinyl or cds...stop being so fucking melancolic! The ART of djing has ALWAYS been about the music! I don't care how it's mixed...I only care about the music that the DJ's playing!

armin said that he will probably start using alberton someday... he hasnt done it yet but i think it would be really cool to see how it could work with trance.
and wtf is worng with some ppl... what difference does it make if theres a vinyl playing or a 10 wavs together making something new and unique on the fucking fly... 5 years ago we could only dream about these kind of parties and this kind of dj sets. theres gonna be a revolution with alberton and every big dj will start using it. ofcourse as others said the new djs cant use it cuz they got no samples and its expencive.. but if mp3 stores start to sell tracks in pieces then even the bedroom djs can use alberton (we ve all seen 10.000$$$ setups in the setup pics thread) so money isnt a big problem. just wait a few years. dance music history is changing ppl!!! maybe we ll be a part of this change too.

This doesnt mean I dont value the music, it just means that I also value the performance bit, too. |

| Originally posted by Danny Ocean seeing sasha using ableton is like seeing a musical band. He is playing live, making the music (adding elements, samples, musical layers) to the tracks and then mixing to the next. Hes more of a performer now than just being a DJ. Like he said its a blend between playing live and deejaying. Just imagine how crazy his sets can be. He'll have you dancing your ass off all night, and if thats not the reason why you go to a club, then i got no idea. And besides its not the same playing a set at home than going to a club. You'll probaby never hear the set he played at a club ever, but you can always open winamp and play sets. |
