I have tried the low cost foamy ones, at a club before and they cut out ALOT of the hard frequencies. Almost to much as I couldn't really hear the music. haha... needless to say I pulled them out and was blasted away. The ones I used are the same that I would use for weedwhipping, as they are made to block out frequencies that are created from Chainsaws, weedwackers, etc...

So what if a track uses a weedwacker real loud in the buildup to the track, you won't hear it, thats why you need the top quality plugs.

Dj tinnitus - screech?

Posted by m0sh on Mar-05-2005 20:03:

Well my only question for you who has tinnitus, are u sensitive to nosie more than u used to be ? cuz if so I don't think I'll go clubbing anymore...the bass in israeli parties just kills me and I was wondering if tinnitus only makes noises and doesn't affect sensitivity

Posted by DJSTER on Mar-05-2005 22:00:

Just like most of the ppl, i am only able to notice it if i were to focus on the high pitched sound. But i shake my head and its fades off. Like its fades off soo smoothly...it facinates me.

Uhm, they just recently found a cure for tinnitus I saw it on the discovery channel Anyway, the treatment was as follows:

The patient goes to see an audioligst who pinpoints the exact freqeuncies the tinnitus takes up i.e 19Khz+ Then a special cd of pinknoise is formulated with the tinnitus frequencies removed. The patient is then required to listen to this cd (for up to 4 months I think) every night. The explanation given (I can't remember it exactly) was that the brain gets retrained and learns to compresses the frequencies that are missing from the pinknoise once you stop listening to the cd.

Ok, well I see a few people have really mild tinnitus (I think to some extent everyone has). However, after I got back from a PVD set a few years ago, I had the worst excruciating ringing in my ears 24/7. I actually ended up getting quiet depressed and couldn't cope with anything.

THANK FUCKING GOD IT WENT AWAY AFTER A WEEK AND A HALF

I aint got tinnitus but i do get frequent ear cramps in my right ear. Iput it down to haveing the monitor level to loud.

it is the ultimate pain your whole ear feels dead your eye waters and you get toothache.

Thats nothing, once upon a time woody mcbride threw parties with what was called "the wall of bass"

It's a million watt EAW system driven by a few racks of crown macrotechs

Edit: or you could see a DC Productions event with a Ten's of thousands of watts.

if your ears have become sensitive to high frequencies you most likely have some hearing damage. tinnitus is a form of hearing damage that never goes away though. unless it's your ears ringing from some loud nosie for only a while (a week or so max) when it's not called tinnitus.

so to put it short: you have damaged your hearing already and you're going to have tinnitus for the rest of your life and your ears will be more sensitive to noise for the rest of your life. not going to clubs won't heal your ears, but it might help a bit to keep away from loud noise for a while. and get earplugs ffs, before your hearing will be lost entirely.

I know this is a serious thread but that's a funny comment. lmfo

Posted by muli on Mar-07-2005 00:57:

best investment ever!

Now i don't leave home without them, and my ears are doing great

I HAVE EARPLUGS AND THAT DIDNT HELP ME IN THE CLUBS!
And I did 2 hearing test and they both came fine , tho I tired hard to listen because of the tinnitus

and about the music cd...a doctor told me about it...that I should hear everynight before I go to sleep 20-30mins of peaceful music...so is classic music good enough?

Posted by MERLIN on Mar-07-2005 06:17:

i got it. it's just a part of life now.

Posted by MERiDiAN5i2 on Mar-08-2005 22:22:

yup.. i gots it :|

too much loud music and working in noisy environments!

Posted by Psy-T on Mar-08-2005 22:45:

dont have it, probably never will aswell

i know my limits very well, and around the house - music blasting 24/7 - never beyond my volume limits

at clubs, some of them are ok, some of them are too bad, in which case i take breaks if the set is good, and if its shit i just leave

Posted by visje on Mar-09-2005 11:59:

dont have it now. if i get it in the slightest way im gonna sell al my DJ stuff. Dont want to let it get worse and live with it for the rest of my life. I do use custom fitted earplugs though thank god they exist
