Damn wish I went. Ah well, I'll enjoy my rather large overtime cheque instead!
I saw him! I was about to step in and gently show him the way away from us, but he moved on... I think he was a "developing butt-grinder"... not quite there yet, but soon...

he was high as a giraffe's ass!

I had a blast at this. Vagrant KILLED IT, I was in the front for most of the night, until we went into the main room after. Cool seeing everyone and meeting Ilia, Larissa, Kelly, Max (Been ages!)

Good times ! Haven't been to a full on techno party in almost 2 years, so didn't even know what to expect. In particular, some of you talking about how Barbara went from one style to another - well, it all sounded the same to me, hehe.. Except that at the end she got really really boring.
This party also made me realize how "funny" techno music really is. Haven't really seen so many insane smiles on peoples faces during other styles of music.

You make it sound like you know more about DJing than she does. You also make it sound like she went from playing banging techno to top 40 house in a matter of minutes, which isnt true either. (but the rest of us know that anyways, because we were there too.) |
Well...I had a great time.
My 3rd time hearing Miss B and almost decided against going to this because the last time I heard her spin (maybe 1-2 years ago) she didn't impress me at all.
The very first time I heard her spin was waaaaaaay back in 2001 during her Relentless Beats tour @ Turbo. That was the night that my affair with techno had begun.
But I have to say, she was pretty darn good on this night and I enjoyed MOST of her set. I didn't like it when just before 2 she started getting a little "housy". But later on she turned it back it up and I was done. My feet/legs had taken a major beating and I had very little energy left for Deko-ze and left soon after he started.
Great partying it up with those who showed. You're all awesome and the party just isn't the same without you!
I didn't spend much time in the Front Room because when we got there Arthur Oskant was already on, and his stuff was REALLY good! He really impressed me.
Caught a bit of Vagrant's set but it was just too slow after listening to all the bangin' stuff happening in the main room. It was great seeing Matt again!
This was also my first time at SystemS since the new sound system was installed and WOW!!! They have one helluva sound system in there now. Definitely right up there with Boa's. Great job!
Thank you to John for the g/l.
The cheese and crackers in the Front Room was a nice touch.

My ears rang like an SOB when I left.
It was so loud that in parts of the dancefloor, I could feel my arm hair vibrate. No joke.
I thought it would be way louder though - I think midway during her set the levels came down because it became manageable up near the front all of a sudden.
Regarding Barbara's "new sound"
From her website...not specifically re. her Toronto gig tho

Hey everyone!! I want to thank all the nice people who made my night from last Thursday in Ottawa one of my best nights of the last few months! It was totally refreshing to play in such a small and cool little club (Helsinki) and be able to play such slow, funky minimal acid house and techno, without anyone asking me to play harder all the time!! To be perfectly honest, if all my gigs were like last Thursday in Ottawa, or like my last Iturnem night here in Montreal, then I would be so happy! I understand that when you go to McDonalds you want McDonalds, and when you buy Coca Cola you want Coca Cola, but I really wish people could be more open to artists, and not expect always the same sound out of them. Art changes, Trade Marks don't. And although well-known artists get recognized by their sound, they are artists after all and it's just normal that they evolve and they change. Unlike McDonalds or Coca Cola. Thanks for trying to understand this... Barbara |
wow...she worded it so perfectly!!!
She is still amazing nevertheless!!!!

This was my first time seeing her...
And as I'm not a big techno fan I must say....
I LOVED IT!!!! I loved it ALL!!! Aaron (Diginut) -- I'm surprised that you found that her programming was all over the place. I believe quite the contrary. I think the fact that she moved from Techno, to different styles of House contrasted VERY well and served to actually move the set along quite nicely. I wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace if the whole set was constant bangin' techno, but the fact that she would stray from that and bring it back in at the most anticipating times showed that she could REALLY move a crowd and she definitely had me in the palm of her hands!!!
I was NOT dissapointed one bit!!! (And yeah.. it made me appreciate Techno that much more!)
Anyway, nice to see the regular faces around there as usual (like my crew Enraptured, Lipstick, etc.
Luv y'all) TranceChaos; Baki, it was good to party it up with you again! It's been a long while!!! Fuad (and your crew), you rock as always!! And it was nice to finally meet Vivid Boy and Rodrico in person.
Matt 'n' Eric -- great job as usual in the Front room. Eric, I DID hear those dirty tracks you dropped on your second time around
-- wicked man.

Hmmmm... anyone else notice that my shirt matched the decor of the front room almost exactly?
Weird!
wow great post skipper..
beautifully worded by mistress

too many people constrict themselves to one or two particular "genres" and spend half their time on msg boards bitching about others...
their loss i guess
