vern, maybe you like to be a tourist wherever you go, but I certainly dont. If Im going someplace to have a nice romantic dinner, I dont care where the fuck it is as long as it makes my stomach happy and my significant other starts making fun at me in bed because of how much money I just spent on dinner.

nah...i cant imagine a grl doing that vlad...a guy can NEVER spend TOO much treating his significant other with a NICE dinner. but you def WILL reap the rewards later at night...LOL

wow, thank you all so much for the responses! My first search came up with Tavern On The Green, but I wasn't impressed based solely on their website. Now I've got some serious research to do before chosing a restaurant. I'll update once I've made a choice. btw - all this planning goes to shit if she says no. lol

Vlad - I figured it would be easier to do the carriage ride, take a quick stroll to a nearby restaurant, then catch a cab to a broadway show. At this point it's wide open though, thanks for all the recommendations and I'll definitely consider each regardless of location. I'm sure it's a >$20 cab ride to any of these places...

Thanks again everyone!

sounds very romantic...*swoon*
good luck with that! I hope she says YES!!!

You can still do that, and there are plenty of places on the upper east side (as well as west side) that you could go to to have a nice dinner, granted they arent the 'romantic' type, but they are those places you either know or dont - and happen to not know them. But as Brian said you could check out Oceana, its on 54th, so its not far from where you will be.

just wondering...

hmm this question should be in another thread and obviously not this one...but just wondering on nice mid-priced restaurants (all of these are kinda up there in price). With average to goodsized portions (not tiny)...is Oceana like that?

My favorite restaurant right now is Sea in Williamsburg. Its Thai, specializing in seafoods, it is very cheap - same owners as Spice on University St.
