looking forward to CF tonight

awesome is right. fortier played the entire spectrum over 4 hours: deep prog, tech, breaks, chunky house basslines, electro. Topped it off with prog-trancey Sarah McLachlan remix (NFI what track) and a killer mix of The Killers - Mr Brightside. Didn't lose the dancefloor once, and finished a night of dark, brooding tunes with soaring melodies.

For those of you who haven't been, Banana Alley is one of this city's finest venues, and it suited this night down to a T. Nice size crowd, plenty of room to dance, very friendly folks and good company to boot!

Cheers to the TAs I hung out with:

JayKuE
mikkaa
Renegade
basix21
tachyon

Sorry I wasn't more talkative... was totally away with the fairies at the end there.

Didn't run into BJeT -- hope you enjoyed the night!

4.5 stars out of 5... all class.

It was night of progressive like no other I have heard in Melbourne. Fortier managed to mix it up for the whole 4 hours, and did not really lose the crowd once. Unlike a lot of other prog DJs who tend to play the same style of shit through the whole of their set, he was able to change the tempo, the groove and style of his set after every 2 to 3 tracks, which made his 4 hour set a whole lot more fun to dance to for the whole duration.

His set had a strong Detroit minimilistic techno flavour, which we don't get to see a lot of here in Australia, but is something that could definately grow on me.

Was not sure whether it was his fault or whether it was the equipment that fucked up when there was a major train wreck at the beginning of his set but find it particularly funny each time, how DJs have to make an effort to always look puzzled, fumblimg around looking at the equipment, just in an attempt to emphasise to the crowd that it was an equipment malfunction, instead of their own fault. Makes me feel reassured each time, that a trainwreck can happen to the best of us, when it can happen to someone of the ilk of Fortier.

On the whole it was a jolly good night for my first Private Function, and will definately not be my last. One of the better educated crowds I have seen out in a long while as well. Hope to see more of you at the next one.

dude he told me personally that he was experimenting a lot last night with heaps of driving electro prog, but then claims that he's not really into electro that much....

<3 <3 <3 his work with tech stuff though.. fucking awesomeness....

Posted by Light The Fuse on Apr-16-2005 08:34:

yeah hes a good guy..met him last time he was down...
and yeah he woulda said that because electro prog is nothing like real electro

Posted by gumble on Apr-16-2005 09:58:

electro prog / electro house / electro clash are to electro as what armin is to "ground breaking" artist.

Was I right or was I right?

Yeah Fortier was amazing. Tough, meaty sometimes techy, sometimes tribally, sometimes uplifting (especially towards the end) prog. Fucking relentless for the entire 4 hours (although he came out a bit handbaggy which I think had me and Gerry worred there for a while ). There's been a few good ones already, but that for me was probably the best set I've witnessed so far this year. Absolute class.

Good to see a decent TA contingent out to a prog event as well and to meet a few of you for the first time. Are we all up for Infusion this Friday?

the BEST set of 2005, loved every minute of it

two bad things:
1. sydney only got three hours (grumble )
2. at 3:30 i was really hungry and decided to go grab a Beef Kebab, i came back to hear the very end of !!! (Chk Chk Chk) Hello, Is This Thing On? (40oz Re-Edit) the one track i had been anticipating most for the night - the aftertaste of that Kebab was extremely bitter

the last 40 minutes of fortiers set was insane, and consequently - my ankle is swollen again from dancing

nice to the see the boys out and expanding their horizons at Sweetchilli. Only managed to catch the first hour, as was dead buggered and wasn't planning a big one.

yeah from what I saw, wasn't the best prog set Ive heard. Definitely not enough variety for my liking and at times felt like I had top leave the room because it was getting way too monotnous. In saying that, Sweetchilli boys undoubtedly put on the best parties in terms of production and atmosphere. Really enjoyed that second room!

See you all at Danny Howells
