Everybody I know who's tried it, says it just dilutes the peak. If you're planning on rolling day after day, I don't think it's going to work on the second day anyway. My friend tried that on a 36-hour New Years marathon, and he said the second night just made him sketchy and sick.

5-htp is a supplement, not a magic recovery drug. It will not enable you to fully recover in one single day. Your body needs time, plain and simple - you can take supplements to alleviate your sketchiness the next day, but your brain chemistry really needs about 1 month to get back to normal, or at least a good week to get back to functional levels. Of course I know people aren't going to wait a week for recovery at WMC, but try to give it at least a few days!

A lot of my info came from a doctor and a biology grad student. FYI, I'm not by any means a frequent user, but all it takes is a little research and maybe a few mistakes.

When you say "afterwards", are you referring to immediately after the comedown or the next day? If it's a good few hours later then stress caplets (or just plain vitamin B complex, look for the big-ass B-50 pills) with a good helping of 5-htp will do nicely. If it's immediately after, then unless you want to go the cig/spliff/other drugs route, you're S-O-L.

I've never really had harsh comedowns, but taking half a pill about 90 minutes after the first one usually makes that comedown more gradual... that's good if your anxiety is a reaction to the pill, bad if it's psychological.

(Don't hurt me DawnTreader, I know that's not directly related to recovery but how you manage your night can have a major effect on how easy it is to recover! )

ty for the info. only done it twice. first time, felt anxious as hell afterwards. second time i felt only slightly anxious. this could have to do with the fact that i take paxil daily for anxiety. anyway, i dont like it as much as the good ole green stuff and a few dirty martinis, so i'm fine to just not do it and save some brain cells for grad school. the thought of having to get on a plane with that anxious feeling is enough to make me say no also.

It almost definitely has to do with the fact that you take Paxil. SSRIs completely change the character of a roll.

don't take it in the first place, its not even worth it...you can party/have fun all nite without a comedown if you dont roll...and you'll actually remember it...

if you're going to take substances at least take acid or some kind of psychedelic that provides some kind of meaningful/learning experience

ecstasy = garbage imo...

peach, I also take meds for anxiety... i take zoloft and I've found that zoloft actually decreases my roll (serotonin inhibitors)... I just dont take it when i roll


and after the roll some 5-htp morning, afternoon and night... and then back to the zoloft

thanks for the info ambs! where do you get this 5-htp stuff? herbal supplement section of a drugstore?

although im bringin a bottle of like 50, so if you don't have time to get any, i suppossssssssssse i could let you bum some of mine

Yea, i've never even heard of this until reading this.. But it looks good. Any recommendations for a 'first time user' of the 5htp that is...

You can get 5-HTP at any vitamin/nutrition store. Hey, I've even bought it at Walgreens up here in Chicago. I've been taking 50 mg 2 times a day for the last few days. From what I've learned in the past is to take 100 mg before you go out with about 500 mg of magnesium and vitamin c. The morning after take the vitamin c, HTP and multivitamins. It seems to help me at least.
