freeform. freeform is basically a type of nu skool hardcore which i think is quite sophisticated and is quite trancy but in a darker, harder more forlorn kind of way. it has similarities to happy hardcore but its deeper and more serious.

freeform is designed so that it can be played at pretty much any turntable speed although it is commonly played at drum and bass type speeds (170 bpm +) hence the name 'freeform'

good examples of freeform?

spinback and storm - your love [underground recordings, 2004]

uplift and stargazer - statik [raw elements uk, 2004]

scott brown - eternal soul [evolution, 2003]

interstate - this is my bass [evolution plus, 2004]

its usually, fast, hard and beautiful. sometimes it gets monstrous, like k complex feat. carol sharland - freedom. sometimes it gets cheesy. but hey, thats hardcore for ya.

Freeform is awesome

Derivative, thanks for the samples. However, freeform style is very fast for me... I'm 30 y.o.

LoL

*hands sonic his cane*

Freeform sounds very much like happy hardcore to me but a bit more evolved in terms of melody. Sounds like it would be fun to mix! Can't believe Scott Brown is still producing! 'Do What ya Like' was one of the first tracks I really got into. Excellent stuff for its time.

Posted by Derivative on Mar-24-2005 13:15:

haha yea, ive got an old q-tex record from like 1992 called 'do ya want me?' really good chime sounds. really shit vocals - 'DO YA- DO YA- DO YA WANT MEH? DO YA NEED ME? DO YA THINK OF MEEEEEEE?!' primitive hardcore. scott brown is still producing. hes still releasing a crazy amount of records per month and about 3/4 of all the tunes on evolution records are his. last time i checked thats over 70 releases.

that uplift and stargazer tune though is sick. im glad i own all of them on vinyl cuz you cant get most of these tunes anymore.

mef - feel like collabing on a freeform tune?

Besides, well, Alek Szahala (and the so called Finrg scene) takes a lot of elements from Acid, Trance and Psychedelic and puts them into a hardcore-type sound... its not actually like Psytrance but has a similar "tripping"-factor. His new track "Dryad" plays with Goa-Elements.. you can have a look at his site... http://alek.szahala.com - i like that very much. But let me assure you, your stuff sounds different and unique nevertheless.

ah gotcha!!

relly this guy is living nex to my house.. and he started to make freeform like 3years ago.. and latest releases are 1year old becouse of length of queue...

if you want to sneak prews of finrg goto www.klubitus.org and select forums and then biisit ja remixit section and spot names like poc(pain on creation), carbon based, aleck of course and nomic..

they usually post their lowres prewievs there over 2 years before release so...

Great mate, thanks a lot!

I just reactivated my freeform project "Kryogen" and layed down some patterns in a few hours

heres the Link:

http://www.cybernetika.de/kryogen_-_archetype.mp3

Please note this one is without proper mastering so far, arrangement could be changed as well... basses are too heavy, but I need your comments... is there potential? Should I carry on with Freeform or better stick to Goa/Psytrance ?

fuse the 2 into one gigantic musical bad trip!

bear in mind that psychedellic hardcore is a derivitive industries patent.

hand over the cash. boiiiiiiiiii.

Posted by Derivative on Mar-24-2005 16:42:

out of curiosity - what 303 type sound is that from? doesnt sound like AR bassline.

Posted by cybernetica on Mar-24-2005 16:43:

Hahaha, after you spread your recipe of success for free?!

Posted by Derivative on Mar-24-2005 17:03:

i generally dont mind people using it as long as they make something beautiful out of it. and give me credit for the invention - after that you can do what the hell ya want! just make it good.

if its shit. *woe* is you for abusing my gift to the world!

Posted by cybernetica on Mar-24-2005 17:17:

I dont get the point why you call yourself inventor of that style? You basically came up with the idea but this idea is nothing new I bet... since I listen to both Psytrance and Hardcore, its only a logical consequence to me to make something influenced by both ... Of course I dont try to copy you

Posted by Derivative on Mar-24-2005 17:24:

then we must assassinate whoever invented the style before us. we must use poison. discretion is our greatest weapon...

Well, for you that maybe booooooooooooooooooooooring...but not for the label owner's such as T.I.P world and Hommega and others including me ,it has been released 5 time on different compilations and +2 times with (Eat static rmx) and +1 time the Ep release. So, total is eight releases ,what? people goes totaLY INSANE doing that?

Well you got the answer ,and if you will go back into 2001 ,to big outdoors or clubs and hear that track in the sets of good Djs ,you will never say that again ,that its boooooooooooooooooooring...,and agian , just on my opinion its boooooooooooooooooooring...,and again ..........................

Please understand my positsion ,i am not trying to separate music by genres ,i judje music by the level of composer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Finaly forward,if you interesting in thing that "Waves of sound" has been named classic ,by one and only,Astral projection ,and has been released number times ,including Astral's mix of all time classics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, for track "for the people" i am not going to say nothing ,find by your self .I think after you will listen to that track ,you will still be on your position as you are right now.But try to listen to that one ,and maybe will something hapen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------That info you will fin here ,about release:

The good thing about psy is that I feel anything is possible. I don't feel any limits on how I'm supposed to make my track.

(damn uni taking all my time, nothing left for music )

Posted by Axolotyl on Apr-19-2005 00:45:

Think before I post? What, before I post my opinion on a track? Get fucked Ron. Thats what these forums are for!

Look mate, I'm not interested in comparing dick sizes here. I honestly dont think that its that great a track, regardless of what the one and only Astral Projection say or how many times its been releases on TIP or any other labels. Maybe you are, but I'm not the kind of person who makes up his mind on a track because of what other people say or how many times it been released by certain labels.

Sadly, I havnt heard the other track by Yahel vs Infected. If they are as amazing and as classic as you say they are, then surely I'll be converted. If not, who gives a shit? Why is it so hard for some people to accept others opinions... LOL Each to their own eh?

PS: I am ordering that CD just on your recommendation... hope your happy!!! ....and it better be fucken good mate!!! haha!!

im not really that big on astral projection or infect mushroom. with infected mushroom its almost debateable that its trance because it builds and drops with so much regularity and goes off on these crazy classically inspired tangents.

stuff like fatali - city of god. thats my idea of psy. the beat drops out for like 4 bars in the entire song. its just constant, non stop and hypnotic. just how i like my trance. shame the rest of wild life is a bit iffy.

Posted by hardikaveri on Apr-20-2005 05:04:

i like oldschool goa trance.. astral*.*.. and other astrals aliases..
i got 1 in trace we trust and all tracks produced by those guys ; )

also i like psycheledic techno ..like authentik ...sweeet..

but i dont like progressive psy witch is big in finlands psy underground
thats boring

Posted by Axolotyl on Apr-20-2005 08:59:

I like the wierd electro funky type of Psy trance. Psysex, Black and White, some GMS's stuff for example. That stuff really gets me dancing!

People have been bagging out Infected a lot lately, but I saw them a couple of weeks ago and it blew the back of my friggin skull out. They've kinda stripped down a lot of the sounds and its all very focused on big buildups, but the only other live act that I've seen come close would be ultrasonic. No one rocks the place like them

,if you could just tell me how i would go about it im ,using soft synths and a sequencer ,

i would just need something like a ruff draft and i could just build my own Psych tunes from it.

thanks

Take acoustic or synth bass tones turn the vibrato delay down to - 20 or so and turn the Vibrato depth up. The longer you hold a note the more twisted it gets. turn the cut-off frequency way down and the resonance up. This should add some grainy filth to it. run it through distortion filters, delays and (wah, phaser etc...)and lo- fi filters. I find that f minor chord progressions are paticulary sinister. for those bubbling 303's double over each note and set pitch/key for each set of tones and add the effects/filters.
the new progressive psy trance I've been hearing is fscking awesome.
All the headline psy dj's spin hard full on So you don't hear much prog psy or breakbeat psy. Have fun peace!
