And Catholics wear their religion on their sleeve, just like any other religion. Put me in a room with someone for an hour and I could tell you whether or not they're Catholic. Or Christian. Or Muslim. It's impossible for anyone who is devoted to their religion to keep their mouth shut when something that they don't agree with shows up in the news or in a conversation.

Tell me verdog and ibizadreamer according to their profiles have been here for a while. Are you telling me you knew they were catholic previous to this thread?

Lol oops you guys beat me to it!
And Yes punisher I'm in highschool, grade 10. How about yourself?

If you disagree with the Pope, most Catholics would say that you don't belong in the Church. (At least, every Catholic I've ever been around... which includes quite a range of people.)

If you disagree with George Bush... shit, I guess you're an American.

extremists exist in the US since the pilgrims landed. Practically every religion in the US is taken to the extreme. From the burning of "witches" to whatever laws catholics influence nowdays. Only in America! maybe this should be American Catholics piss me off. I dont mean to generalize here, but i bet most catholics youve met are from the US correct?
Im from El Salvador, probably 85% of the country is catholic. I was baptized, and had my first communion, and didnt do my confirmation because i just dont give a fuck about religion nowdays. All of my friends are catholics, they all party though and go wild and "sin" like every human. Some even go to church on sundays too, that amazes me. Maybe they are not devoted but they still follow some type of belief/s that catholics preach, they make confessions etc..they can call themselves catholics.
Anyways just because someone takes the pope or the bible to the extreme dosent make him more catholic than anyone else. Thats just a dumbfuck comment.

I want to preface this by stating that my roommate is Catholic. I have been living with him for two years. He's studying to enter the seminary at WSU next year. I, personally, went to a private Catholic school for two years (sixth and seventh grade). I know more about the Catholic faith than most people who aren't Catholic, so if Catholics are reading this and want to argue any of the following points, be my guest. In fact, I hope someone who is Catholic replies. It will just drive my points home.

For starters, the Schiavo case has gone too far. The fucking woman is dying. She's a borderline vegetable, and cannot survive unless there is a feeding tube present. Guess what? Feeding tubes aren't mentioned in the Bible, and Schiavo cannot feed herself. Therefore, it is not a fucking suicide. I don't care what the man in the funny hat says about it. I don't care what your priest says about it. If you cannot survive without the assistance of someone else, you are allowed to die. It's nature, not intent, that is killing you. Schiavo should have died years ago. Her sick fucks for parents decided to keep her alive in an atrocious state simply so that they can delay the inevitable pain that will come along with their dauther's passing.

Another thing that has been bugging the shit out of me is the fact that Catholics have so much to say about abortion in the United States. The funny thing is, some of the most outspoken people on the issue are male. Guess what? If you don't have a uterus, shut the fuck up. You don't know shit about having children. You don't know shit about what's good for a woman's physical and/or psychological health. What if the woman knows she won't survive pregnancy? What if she was the victim of a rape? What if there's a chance that the kid is going to be born with some horrible affliction that will make theirs a life of pain and misery? Huh? What then? I'll tell you what, at least according to the church: have the kid, anyway, because it's wrong to have an abortion. The Bible and the man in the funny hat say so.

Lastly, the issue of gay marriage comes to mind. Who gives a fuck if two men or two women want to get married? It's not about your fucking Bible. Most of them could give a shit what it says. It has nothing to do with a religious union. It has to do with the fact that people get fucked in the ass for health, education, and financial benefits when they can't be legally married. Your religious views on the issue are not important. It's about legality. We're all high and mighty about being an accepting nation that embraces diversity, and yet we go and fuck people over when they try to make use of the institutions that we have had in place for centuries.

I'm so sick and tired of people refusing to think for themselves. Go fuck yourself if you live by what is written in a book. The Bible is thousands of years old. It is not an authoritative source on every possible situation that could ever come up. Neither is an 80 year old man who can barely stand up on his own or even lift his head. (I often wonder who's wiping his ass for him, personally.) You need to wake up and realize that other people don't give a fuck about what your church says regarding something in which you're involved. This is why we have a separation between church and state. This is why we have personal freedoms. Quit trying to be little Hitlers. It's not going to work, and you're just going to get yourselves knocked the fuck out one day when you spout your bullshit in front of the wrong person.

Lights out. Cut the cord. I need a fucking drink.

interesting that you talk about little hitler's. the national socialist regime had some of those exact views as you just stated there. are u a proponent for euthanasia and assisted-suicide? hitler certainly was. yes, help the gene pool and lets put evolution into motion. natural selection. the weak die, and the strong survive.

i certainly agree with you that she should have died back in 1990. she's unnaturally being kept alive. maybe if they followed "God's Will" and just have let her die a natural death. all this would have never happened.

And yeah I agree with cycloptor. Remember it is not the Catholics who kept Bush in office, in fact the areas with high Catholic populations voted for Kerry. And the only thing I saw about Catholics and the Terri Schiavo case was about the pope saying to keep her alive. It seems that it there are more Christian fundamentalists (like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell) who are more vocal about their conservative views, not Catholics.

I wouldn't call myself pro-life but when you have girls using abortion as a form of birth control there needs to be more restrictions on it ... I know it's easier said than done ... but abortion is murder that is a plain and simple undeniable fact ... there is a such thing as adoption, there are plenty of sterile childless couples that are desperate to have babies ... and the bottom line is if you're not ready to have a kid then don't have sex

I'm not a Catholic per se - I'm culturally Catholic (grown up in a Catholic family), but I'm not religiously Christian, for that matter, being under conversion to Buddhism. Therefore, I seek neutrality towards Christianity, for reasons that might not be interesting to you.

Anyway, you want to debate, you said. Fine, I'm game.

The reason why you're so mad at the Christian view is probably because you seem to be as extreme in your position as they are. Keep in mind that it's your belief that she's allowed to die. You're as limited as any human being, so you can't place yourself as the owner of the truth. I do agree with you that keeping her alive is cruel but certainly, our opinion on that is, to say the least, superfluous.

Easy now. First of all, the first point doesn't follow any sense of logic, in fact, it is an ad hominem type of fallacy. Second of all, sure women have the right to do what they feel better for their body. But, until the last time I've checked, I'm not part of my mother, thankfully.

Finally, if you support abortion, that's once again a belief of yours. If the majority (or most powerful people) in your country disagree with you, well, tough luck.

Even though I do support gay union as well, I cannot demand a similar opinion from those who believe it's wrong because they're allowed to have an opinion as well. Like I said before, if they happen to rule your country, remember life is not the way we want anyway.

Simply put, they're like olive oil. No matter where they were, they wouldn't mix with the others (because of their religion and culture) and the others often weren't really fond of having different people around.

That's a very simple view (i.e. I'm summarising in one paragraph what would take a whole essay to explain).
