yea, but you can setup your player to stream through HTTP - which they must have available if you can surf.

open IE
tools -> internet options
connections tab -> LAN settings

- if it's a script ("use automatic configuration script") then really need to download the script and look at the code
- if you have a proxy listed under "proxy server" copy down the info
www.proxyname.com and port #

WMP

tools -> internet options
network tab
uncheck from every protocol (Multicast, UDP, TCP) EXCEPT for HTTP
uncheck use ports "" to receive data
configure -> select "use the following proxy server" and add the address/port

RealPlayer (basic v.8) new versions are similar in setup

view -> preferences
proxy tab
uncheck both PNA and RTSP proxy
select "manually configure HTTP proxy" and add the address/port

i've got both streaming fine behind our very tight-ass proxy

thats all fine and dandy if they arent monitoring bandwith usage like here! they dont really care if you surf..but just dont go boggin down their network...so streaming is a no no here.

but i do just bring all my own tunes so its good. the only thing i can get away with is the Radio1 streams cause they are such low quality. but they buffer too much anyways.

Got the proxy.pac file, what am I looking for?

quote:

Option is disabled but grayed out

Which addy/port?

Thanks for the help, btw

listen to BBC radio 1 or WMP 32kb/s DI.fm - both low bandwidth requirements.. nowhere close to the 192kb/s streams from DI.fm or others.

1.
so they are using a script.. you need to find the address/port for the HTTP proxy.
look for addresses that have a colon: after them and ports that could be HTTP (80, 8080, 80XX)
you can also email it to tristan [at] natsirtm [dot] com and I'll have a look.

2.
that's fine

3. the addy/port we find in the script

Posted by Orko on Mar-24-2005 15:27:

yeah ive been listening to Tongs show for the last 4 years or so.

its awsome. the guy really know how to get you going for the weekend!

Something like this:
return "PROXY vbinprst11:8080";
That's the only instance of addy with a colon that I see. Everything else is IP addys.

You should see my office, I am about 10ft from Lake Ontario. I just ordered a leather couch which is coming in next week!!

However I pay 800.00 in rent for my work pad!!

It took me 5 years of University to accomplish this work pad!! My next step is painting this office.

Armin is ripping it up on 2hp.ca!!

ive got 2-200s, and 1-80giger, and 40 on my mp3 player. so 520 total.

but the first 200, is for c:\(35gigs), and the rest for temp stuff for audio/video editing. so 150gigs for that.

the next 200 is pure music. and the 80...well thats vids until i rip it out and put it in my xbox.

so that means i need another hardrive! at least 200gigers are cheap these days. like $$140 or so.

i hate how i loose like 15gigs cause of formatting/partitioning!!!

k, let's see...

3 x 80g
3 x 120g

that's not including the new 120g i just got.. most of the space in the above drives is taken up.. tv shows, xbox/dreamcast games, music, etc.. like 600gig's of storage.. plus my 40g ipod..

all these little drives are great to use with my fileserver (swappable drive bays built in) but my music is all over all those drives, because i have well over 225g of music alone.. need to start consolidating..

Posted by joinT on Mar-24-2005 16:38:

......... _ 300g ext. usb drive [music singles, albums (mixed and not)]
NSLU2 {
......... _ 300g ext. usb drive [livesets]

that's the plan.. always on & available.. planning to setup a WASTE server on the NSLU2 (embedded linux RAWKS)
