Damn Cynthia!! *Crack* *crack* Is that you're son...? Because Chris, you just got owned, son.

Mario!! How are supposed to swallow Your One-A-Day's without a beer, bro?! Or to wash the booger drips from your bad allergies down your thoat?

I like that about the Vegas, it's a fuc: dup city like MIA, but 24 hr drinks is definitiely tight. I dunno about the Vegas vibe though; every time I go there, it really has me creeped by the time I leave. Beyond everything else you can comepare around the two cities, only one city has Space, Spin, and Crobar in it. I'll be down with it being there if Space Goes On Tour© there.
LeAnn, I'm not racist, but I do notice what you're talking about with the taxi drivers... they're pure idiocracy and ignorance in a yellow hazard. Fresh off the boat, I guess... Definitely an idea to rent a car, if possible, or hitch rides off Greg or me, next year. I really don't know what you mean about the cops... there's way too many way dumber people doing way dumber shee ott to find trouble with emm if you just attempt to keep yourself ½ together... I've seen and gotten away with too much stupid shit on the roads down there to worry, who knows though? That's just me. Miami is almost not part of the United States, the only connection that's left is Tax money and voting pricincts... you'd be surprised how much our government hates our "type" of music... One reason to sum up why WMC is here: Because its Miami.

I say keep it in Miami where it has been for the past 20 years.
I don't think any other place will be better IMO.
reasons:
A. weather
B. chicks
C. guys
C. BEACHES (because you need stuff to do in the day time)
D. Venues (may not be the best but it sure as hell beats any other states)
E. the scene is bigger here than in other states (many states don't even know wtf EDM is)

everywhere you go you're always going to have a-holes complaining and shutting down parties...

None taken. By the way, I'm from New Jersey. So I know a few things about guidos (Or as I call them.. Chest-Shaving Sissy Boys).

I would have to agree. Tampa wouldn't work because the religous right would not allow it. Miami is not considered the US which is why it is able to be held there.

Anywhere other location would have to be outside the US IMO.

Uhm... That wasn't the party I was talking about. I was at the G&D/Christopher Lawrence party. It was THURSDAY. I'm talking about the Saturday party.

It started at 11:00. Volume turned down to the point of not hearing it at 12:00.

Wasn't my music... but pissed me off just the same.

Nope. Seems some people were too cracked out to know which day of the week it was. Such a shame, all those brain cells just going to waste.

I notice that MUSIC isn't one of yoru reasons. That's probably good, though, given the recfent state of noise crack-downs.

Well being from NJ/NY for us NYTA's there's nothing better then knowing that in the middle of March we are gonna shovel out of the snow and cold and head to the warm weather, beaches, and be able to get our fill of kick ass beats. I say keep it in Miami.....in reality it isn't that bad. NYC....water $10 a bottle, drinks forget it, and cabs hold on for dear life, I think everyone just needs to look at the whole picture, there's no Nikki Beach in vegas and WAY to many tourists would want to pop there heads in to the clubs to see what's going on. IMO

Posted by Euphoric on Apr-01-2005 17:44:

As much as I hate the outrageous prices, the overcrowded venues, and the asshole cabdrivers, I will be saving my money for next years WMC whether it's in Miami or not. One thing I wont be doing is going to Space and depending on the lineup probably wont be heading back to Nikki Beach either. Bought tix to Space for two nights out of the week and never stayed for either show, they can ass rape someone else in my place next year. I had a great time without going there. They turned the music down at Nikki Beach in the mid to late afternoon. I can listen to it that loud in my hotel room. There is a lot of things that could change about WMC like buisness owners learning the difference between buisness and theft. There should be a law limited the percentage of mark up on services and good, just like the law for scalping tickets to concerts and sporting events. 11+ for a sorry ass mixed drink??? thats sucks. But until enough are willing find a way and make it work.....guess I'll see yall next year. It's the best thing we have going in the US. I still had a great time, just could be a lot better.

Posted by Vegas on Apr-02-2005 00:52:

I agree.. but your right.. we'll be there next year.. and probably every year after until they find a new town. maybe Vegas.. hey they rip people off every day, but at least they are up front about it. plus we could get swished in the casino for free.

Def +1

Posted by chrismack on Apr-03-2005 17:18:

A couple things:

First: I love Miami. I love the beach. I love the bars. I am not suggesting that Miami as a party destination needs to be disrespected.

However, I fly into Miami to attend WMC. I register as a delegate and attend what is intended to be an industry event. The whole purpose of this is to showcase EDM to people who make, produce and otherwise earn their loving from the scene.

When these showcases are shut down by authorities who don't seem to care about the millions of $ and prestige it brings in, That affects me personally - and the reason why I attend the event (and quite frankly why the event occurs at all.)

I understand that some people are "tourists" who just want to party.. I think that's great and probably makes for a better week. But, if we lose the original goal, fewer parties will take place, the industry guys and their money will slowly stop coming, and by necessity, it will move somewhere else - either by choice or circumstance.

Miami is great, but if they can't or won't stand up for the conference side of WMC - and the reason why they are gettign this windfall of tourist bucks, then it's time to move.

u know we'll all be BACK next year, grl... esp. for Nikki Beach

Posted by Vegas on Apr-05-2005 03:07:

your right .. we'll be back.. but if they moved it to vegas.. we'd be there.. or wherever they moved it.. i think they should let the city of miami decide... give them an ultimatum.. allow the parties during that week. or we will take our 60,000+ tourists to the city of our choice. if miami says no.. then we go

I second that.

Posted by el.maestro on Apr-06-2005 14:45:

IMO, WMC/Ultra was bigger and better this year than ever before. People love coming to Miami for the conference. And the Wyndham? WMC owns the hotel that week. The price wasn’t bad considering what other hotels charge.

The problem with people complaining was a bit out of hand though. The RA pool party got shut down during the day. Now that’s going a bit far considering the law allows noise until 11 PM. I wonder if there was something else behind that…

Conspiracy theories aside, in spite of the problems, the conference went on and will continue to do so in the years to come.

Keep in mind that you’re not just dealing with the City of Miami. There are over 30 Municipalities in Dade County. That means the City of Miami deals with Downtown but the City of Miami Beach governs South Beach.

The residents of Miami Beach are not WMC-friendly. But I would imagine it is the result of other events during the year that bring trouble such as Source Awards where I believe there are several arrests every year.

I'm thinking Atlanta or NYC for a new venue. Sure beats the fascist police state atmosphere you get here.

Like it or not, Miami is pretty much a perfect location for this kind of event in March...

Weather is perfect, people are generally friendly and hot , lots of places to party, easy to get to from many places in USA and world. Esp. for Europeans that come over, it is still too early for Meditranian Summer... It is also close to Europe and South America. Relatively short flights from most EDM spots around the world. You have to remember that huge % of people come from Europe and even larger % of industry people come from there.

NYC is 1. too cold. 2. even more anal police than Miami-Dade. WMC, i believe started in NYC and it didn't last too long... And believe me, i live hell of a lot closer to NYC than Miami

Vegas is also not as good. It is far too small of city, it can still be VERY cold in Nevada in March(desert temps at night drop to 40s and lower), no beaches, not many clubs either. And it is god knows where. The only place close to it is LA. Eurpope is 2-3 leg 20 hour flights.... You think there will be good attendance?

Problem with Miami is 20 years... whenever something runs this long, there will be issues that get worse over years....

But frankly, Miami is one of the most friendly EDM places in USA... (East Coast anyway)

says who?? why in their right minds would they even book 1/2 hour sets (when they're already short enought) for DJ's they're shelling shitloads of money out for, only to squeeze in more acts? that's just not logical.

Blaaah!!!.. he's just rambling.. funny cause this is a WMC thread. And besides, the good DJ's in Ultra had long ass sets ( Cox, Tiesto, Tenaglia, Timo Mass, Howells etc etc etc... ) those were 2-3 Hrs sets!!!!!!! those DJ's alone are worth going if you ask me.. now you got the good teasers showing their 1-1:30, which are good enough for me to switch from one DJ to another..

Posted by mdamon7278 on Apr-28-2005 13:19:

1 1/2 sets are just not good enough, 2 1/2 are better, remember Ultra 2003, the last good one, tiesto, underworld and more, rocked it, the more u have the more of a overkill it is
