Originally posted by S_madis yeah sorry was really late at night which explains the spelling mistake. They are totally incomparable, G&D predominantly produce vocal EDM for a more commericial based market, while Sasha and Digweed, have continued to push the scene at a purely underground level! as dj's also, how can you even begin to say there are similarities between Sasha and Digweed's almost 10 year reign at the top of EDM music, while G&D are nowhere near being classified as the number 1 dj's within America let alone the world. Northern exposure, Renaissance, Twilos, countless classic essential mixes........ what the hell have G&D contributed for someone to even begin mentioning them in the same breath? A BIG FAT NOTHING
end of teh day.. i didnt mean to spark such wild debate
other then saying. . I Love Arcadia, it will get cained tonight and if your there in time, some serious boggying will take place when its played.. i cant wait to hear it on big systemmm i love gabriel & dresden
productions.. and my only disapponitment with them was to do with Alive not being released on vniyl as it was in there Essential Mix and also in a Cor Fijneman set..
davedresden any comments on that last part?
ok forget who is underground and who is not! lets talk in terms of contribution. Sasha and Digweed reshaped the way we listen to music. They were the original pioneers who brought EDM music to the international stage and the success of everything and anything they were remotely associated with had ground breaking effects (no need to go into any detail! anyone who disputes this fact has rocks in their head)
Lets fast forward to 2005........there are about one million artists who could argue that they are 'pushing' EDM music like Sasha and Digweed did in the early 90's. It is everywhere and exists in more sub-genres than ever imagined. To say that G&D will be the next Sasha and Digweed would be to completely disregard these sub-genres, as EDM music has evolved far beyond the point where you or I can say that these guys will be the next innovators of EDM! no one can claim to be the next Sasha and Digweed, as EDM has evolved far beyond any one particular style. I'm not having a dig at G&D (I enjoy their productions! Way out west - Mindcircus G&D mix is definitely in my top 5 tracks of all time), but anyone who comes out and claims that any particular artist will have the same influence as Sasha and Digweed, clearly does not understand that EDM in 2005 is alot different to EDM in 1992 when Sasha and Digweed were originally coming to terms with this new style of music.

Dave, I'd of said Sasha's remix of Madona - Ray of Light...That's a classic....
Anyhow. Sid's point is where it's @....They are the fathers of EDM.

Originally posted by Nyquist_Theorem xpander is a reasonably decent track that is rather poorly produced and engineered. it lacks properly detailed bottom end (and in fact a whole swath is missing in the 100-250hz range thru most of the track, almost as if it was half finished) and, much like some of underworld's tracks, its length and structure seems to miss the 'leave them wanting more' point that makes so many 'hit' EDM tracks work. the 'novelty' of the oberheim xpander riff around which the track is based may be 'ooh ahh' to some, but its just an xpander. they make those sounds, quite easily. sasha 'discovered' the xpander more than a decade after vince clark, trent reznor, alan wilder and the rest of the 80s synth explorers had turned it inside out and got the exact same fifty-oscillator sound out of it.
Comparing G and D to Sasha and Digweed is lke comparing Shane Warne to Peter Taylor lol

personally, i think whilst sasha' dj skillz/sets might be better the G&D sound is much better and eventually with the right exposure, be enjoyed by more people then the sasha/diggers sound.. obviously this is open to different opinion.. [/QUOTE]
no soups, no.
have you heard heaven scent? this is Digweed when he was at the point g and d are right now.
have you heard xpander?
Scorchio?
Walking on fire?
dude, digweed and sasha are the gods, they did it first, they invented it, the are the kings. G and D are really good and i enjoy them enormosly, but they are following a path that was set out 10 years ago. There were NO Superstar DJ's, then there was 1, his name was Sasha.
In 5 years when G and D are PLaying super intelligent, deep prog, and you say they are the ultimate..again you will be wrong.
full respect for dave dresen and josh gabriel for what they are doing, its good and its needed, but cmon, this is sasha and digweed.

Originally posted by Nyquist_Theorem So you were listening to Sasha and Digweed when you were 8 years old? At the risk of repeating myself, ten years ago, people viewed S&D not so differently from how they view G&D now. They weren't gods, and they weren't the ones that put EDM on the map, either; Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, and New Order (to name a few) were filling stadiums around the world with EDM throughout the 80s. I suspect you're working from inherited nostalgia for a period in music-history time that you weren't around for. With G&D, the proof will be the test of time. I say good on em, and lets see how the next few years treat them.
