yeah, jump the next train... thats probably one of the most stupid songs ive ever heard in my life, and yet people ate it up like corn flakes. why?

*edit* i concur with the above rules. yet another suburban train was a complete disaster.

well, being the poor trance-starved boy that i am, i havent heard this yet. from memory, urban train was the first trance song i ever downloaded, so it has a special place in my heart and am a bit protective of it. so im curious but sceptical

dave- there are crap songs in every genre of music that lots of people end up liking. we still dont know why haha- made my evening hearing jump the next train at halo when you guys were here, after youd started that thread dedicated to its hatred the week before

what about

DJ Tiesto - In My Memory

another great vocal tune

Posted by queen_vee on Apr-12-2005 02:13:

perhaps vocals often work better in trance when a 'trance remix' of a vocal track is done? ie. silence- the focus was on the vocals and lyrics initially and as such they are near perfect (make that perfect in silence, no one can deny the power of this song!) in which case, they are going to sound neither cheesy nor crap as trance track.

i suppose vocals can help create a mood or thought which is why too many in a set (or one after another after another) can make it seem too choppy and ruin flow and not enhance each vocal track sufficiently.

my faves:
oakenfold- southern sun
andain & motorcycle vocalists
sarah mclachlan and sinead o'connor lend themselves beautifully to vocal trance tracks.

male vocals can be awesome though! underworld sound really trippy, the killers vocalist sounds similar. love them both.

again this whole discussion falls down to personal opinion. There isn't a set benchmark that things fall into to determine a good tune from a bad one. The listener makes up his or her mind based on what gives them the tingles. On that note, I think vocals are great and yes, they can sometimes make or break a tune. But I guess it's all about how it's done and whether it suits the listener(s) own musical taste etc..

Lovely. rock on!

Posted by Aesthetic on Apr-12-2005 02:24:

agreed with queen vee on all things said, and soups - in my memory is one track that was definately done right

tears from the moon hits it too.

cummins - haha wasnt that just poetic justice

thanks for the example- another song i reckon is RUINED by the vocals. so um, yeah. i guess i am denying the power of this song

i agree with pana, is *does* come down to personal taste. however, on the flipside, no one is gonna take me seriously if i tell them i can paint better than rembrandt. there *are* standards in art. music would be the same. so whilst what one likes/dislikes can come down to personal taste, the over-all \"goodness\" of a tune is more than just preference. its the same as appreciating a song/genre that you dont like i guess- you can see it has worth even if it dont make you tingle.

Posted by Aesthetic on Apr-12-2005 02:33:

yeah exactly.. whilst music is art and art is what's "in the eye of the beholder".. although one man's trash could very well be another man's treasure, there still must be some merit to a certain peice of art to ensure its overall quality. that said, you can't just pigeon hole every single critic and say something like "this whole discussion falls down to personal opinion". because there will always be that level that needs to be reached. even though i feel it hardly is anymore in trance.

Posted by pho mo on Apr-12-2005 02:34:

Once again we have here a case of DJs blaming producers, ain't that right Dave

So somebody creates a vocal trance track, sounds great, and then there's 10 remixes of it, half probably don't have the vocals. DJs can buy what they want, choose to play what they want, including how many vocal tracks in a row, 'should i play the vocal version of this tune etc.'

So DJs stop beating off on vocal trance producers! Can't blame one vocal trance song for your crowd deflating - gotta blame the DJ Drop a vocal track at the right time and the crowd'll be gushing and gurning.

And by the way, bring back JvA's massive vocal anthem sets! Yeah baby!

subtley is the key for me.

i dont like bitches screaming at me (unless its ecsatic screaming like in tilt- i dream - tilts ressurrection mix) in real life, and i dont like bitches screaming at me in music.

little sweet nothings, now thats pretty kewl.

Posted by escee on Apr-12-2005 02:44:

Can someone explain to me why No one on earth was considered a good track? Please write 2-300 words analysing the lyrics and tell me they arent complete tripe. Please.

I want to understand why people though this track was good.

Incase it wasnt clear, im in the vocals suck 99% of the time camp.

Posted by Aesthetic on Apr-12-2005 02:51:

the vocals of no one on earth are pretty crap, but it has the distinctive bassline, and really that is what makes it.

i second that Light The Fuse Up! (LTFU)

no way that track deserve to beat Whiteroom for ASOT tune of the year '04

Posted by escee on Apr-12-2005 05:16:

So when you play it you just kind of ignore the vocals and tune into the bassline jpl? Thats cool.

Vocals in the prophet are more of a sample than a vocal. It is from a movie, I forgot what movie however.

I'm in agreeance with noone on earth being complete fucking garbage.
Another song with bloke vocals that i really like is Kyau vs Albert - Velvet Morning

So very true.

Im a complete sucker for QUALITY vocal trance. Too much in a set makes my ears bleed as does cheesy, meaningless droning. A track that i love with vocals is Enmass: "so please" (the flipside of CQ) it gives me goosebumpies! still though, as pana said, it comes down to personal opinion.

I think male vocals are sexy .. The Afterglow, Unpredicatable, (can't remember artists, cfb going through crates) oh and d:fuse - she rides *looks at JPL*

and ... *also stops pulling off to behind silence*

Posted by pho mo on Apr-12-2005 06:01:

Interstate - I Found U (original mix)

This for me is a beautiful tune. Some may call it cheesey, but it's full of emotion and that's the shit right there. Without the vocals it wouldn't be nearly as good.

Emotional content is also why No One on Earth beats Velvet Morning hands down!
