what if trance didnt exist? what if there wasnt any songs with a good beat like trance? what if the wearent any music at ALL? what would I be doing then.. how would I live? how would my perspective of life be? WHO WOULD I BE?

I have to tell you, I've had a glimpse of what life without your favorite music would be like; and trust me, none of you want any of it.

Bit of background: I write electronica myself, play several instruments, work at a studio as a music producer and mix engineer, and I'm a trance nut just like you folks. Once I was at a rehearsal for a cover band, a new band I was joining for the cash and experience. I didn't know how loud the band was going to get, and I figured that since this is a band that plays corporate functions, I'd leave my earplugs out. Bad move. We switched to a big rock number, the drummer went really loud, the whole band went loud, and when I came home, my ears were toast. Really bad, so bad that all the music I used to listen to with my headphones suddenly sounded like absolute crap! Crappy enough that it was useless to even listen to it.

Several days later, my ears still weren't back to normal. I was convinced that this is how they were going to stay for good, and that I'd have to retire from working in music. Above that, can you imagine if someone wrecked your expensive stereo system, the only one you have, and that you could never get a new one or listen to your favorite music on anyone else's, for the rest of your life? That's what it was like. I went with my folks out to dinner. Our car stopped at a red light, right next to another car. In that car, this girl had her system cranked up and she was moving and bouncing to the music, she looked like she was having such a good time, and it was a deeply painful reminder of what I thought I'd be living without. That dinner felt like my last meal. That night I was up in bed at 4 in the morning freaking out. My room was like a cold dungeon, complete with a snowstorm outside. I felt isolated from joy and doomed. All I could think of was the music I used to listen to, and all the sparkly pin-drop details that I thought I'd never hear again. I thought about the world that deaf people live in, and the agony of people who lost their hearing and wished they never knew what it was like to hear.

Anyway, I went to a couple of doctors, they told me it would be back to normal in a month or two, and luckily they were right. After taking time off, I'm back in the game.

I know this seems like a cliche, but if there's anything I can tell you, it's to protect your ears. Get hammered, get stoned, do whatever the #@^&$!! you want but protect your ears. (Maybe try not to overdo it with the other two...not too good for the brain, eh? )

WOW. Perish the thought~! But yes, trance has touched my life...made it better in many subtle ways. It has changed my perspective on things. It motivates me and moves me in ever sense of the word. What would i do without trance you say? Well without trance, without music, might as well be deaf.

I'd turn to sex, I guess. It's the only other way I can get my orgasms from.

Rasta

Trance has replaced all other forms of music for me. Totally. I will still listen to rap and reggae on occassion (if you can believe it), but, every day I don't grow strong with trance, I get weaker.

I would listen to alot more video game music if there was no trance, which is why I listen to trance in the 1st place. But when Wipeout and Wipeout XL for the PSX came out, HOLY SHIT, it was a marridge made in Heaven Scent.

same here sometimes I listen to Rap and hip hop but mostly at clubs...they will have equaly the same amount of each music in a 4 hours session or something like that ...

Posted by izzywillynilly on Mar-29-2002 22:14:

i would focus more heavily on my original baby's:

Pink Floyd
Bob Marley
Grateful Dead
Tool

as to trance (or just electronic music in general) getting too commercial and dying, that shouldn't happen. Yes it will get bigger and bigger, and become the mainstream, and yes much of the mainstream shit will be just that...shit. But Good producers and DJ's will still exist and put out quality music, plus a new underground will be created for us all to relish in.

I think you guys would find some other music to listen to and life would go on...

What scares me is the fact that alot of TAs have a huge void in their life that only trance music can fill. That is a scary thought given all the beautiful things in life that are just waiting to be discovered...you guys should get out more maybe....its just music...life goes on.

I fall into this category...

...if I don't get my daily trance fix, I get cranky. Heheh

If I didn't have TRANCE, I'd grow a moustache.

You must be crazy, i'm not thinking about it. If i did happen, then i'd be forced to become a jungalist or something........gaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh. But it won't happen.

Hmmm if there was no such music as Trance, you know what i would do ?

I would invent it, heh

Neo, you plonker.....where ya been.....(lol.....already knows the answer). Seriously i'd probably just become a technohead and listen to detroit techno 24/7. Not great but IF trance was gone, then i'd have to do that.

i'm betting i still would be walking down Queen st. looking for shops.. and wondering about how life is dull..

but then again.. i would be making my life up along the way trying to make the most of it.. by searching for more ppl to talk with.

Richmond Hill ONT where abouts is that by t.o. ? or in nowhere land ?

Posted by Trance-Canada on Sep-20-2002 02:37:

this question still lurks in the depths of my mind...

I would be emotionally unstable.

My life would just be choas, with even more chaos inside my head. Chaos within chaos.

Trance just keeps my mind clear + free. I've been listening to trance for 2 years, and I've never felt better in my life.

100% Agree

Mirco de Govia just brought my experience to a whole new level, and I know you've been raving about him today.
