oooh! this one looks good!

Its like, $2500 tho

Still, if we all pool our money together, we can all chip in and buy something (maybe not that $$$).

As for advertisers, I'm sure we can approach places like Moog Audio, or record stores or clubs for advertising. Charge em a little bit (since we're a small radio station) to make little announcements etc...

I can perhaps help you guys out with some of the electronical stuff, although I'm no expert, but I'm quite good at researching various subjects. Although, I am more than experienced in computers (any area) so perhaps I can lend you all a hand in that. Also, I'm pretty up-to-date in wireless technology (not just computers) so that's something else. One thing, however, is that I live in the West Island, so setting this up downtown will suck (for me, anyways).

If you guys plan to do this the legal way, get ready to shell out a lot of cash. I suggest you start underground to give it that warm, fuzzy feeling of a non-commercial station that everyone will love and tune into because it's illegal.

well, someone said we're allowed up to 50kw legally...as being an "informal" radio station...so lets aim for that.

I'm in the west too (well, Ville St. Laurent), so someone will have to volunteer their place as the boradcast house.

I can try and talk to the VP's of OP Canada see if they wanna sponsor something this, but would have to get some thing on our end worked out first. I would ask my dads best customer, but he wants results before anything happens (so his off the list). Also talk to the ppl at Fornarina in Montreal. I wonder if 4DJ's would sponsor us. Got to try the beverage companies also.

Wonder if we can get rights from ETN, Proton Radio and DI.FM (if we go the legal way to rebroadcast their stuff)

We don't have to get a large antenna to power the entire city (more expensive); we can setup lower-powered devices (ones that fall in the legal range as governed by the CRTC) and use the Internet to keep them all in sync (just use Shoutcast). We can set them up in strategic places around Montreal island (one downtown, one in the West Island). I assume we're going to use computers for playback purposes, so it works out that way. Most likely we'll only purchase one of these kits at first, since they're very expensive. But then again, I don't know how far 50 Watts FM would take us.

And Soundwerks, it's 50 Watts, not 50 KiloWatts, huge difference between the two.

What is a range of a 50 Watt FM Transmitter anyways?

10 kilometers I believe.

Posted by Marcus007 on Apr-23-2005 20:20:

We're going to need something A LOT bigger than that. :X

How far can you go before the CRTC start bugging you?

Posted by jester on Apr-23-2005 20:21:

So approx. 10 km. Guess I got to draw a map and see where its the best place to put something like that.

Guess we got to put it somewhere in St Laurent

we need to get a meeting going and assemble all the pieces live
i would be ready for next friday
everybody has a mission of getting as much info on equipment , laws and concepts and we get all this together and vote
The message board its going nowhere
anyone have a better time for a meet up
then go ahead and shout

How does May 10th sound? Gives people time to look up everything. Now its the debate downtown or the west island to meet up for this? If its downtown would have to be for like 8 pm, if its the west island could be done for 6 pm.
