Have you got decks Eugene, if you have get the Step Back vinyl, now @ juno, and see how hard it is to mix, well I find it hard to mix

yes, I know.
Another song that's really hard to mix is NuNRG - Dreamland, it just finishes off abruptly.

I like the silver bullet remix of step back better

too rightz, i thing jan johnson - flesh (tiesto mix) is rock 2 mix aswell, coz it doesn't follow the usual rules, when the melody should finish it just starts going again.

i would be the first to admit a mistake, but I just can't hear this one. There are two reasons that could explain why you think it's off. The "I'm coming" vocal sets in before beat "1" it starts at beat 29 of the last bar and then in the "Bush" track there is a double beat on the record, like "bumbum" = 31 32 0.5 1, so it sounds as if the beat "stumbles".
But if you keep counting from the "1" after the "future's coming" part you should notice that it works out. It's hard to describe things that you hear and feel, but now that 2 experienced DJs told me the same thing, I'm really confused. Getting the structure of the songs matched is very important to me bacause it makes the mix more fluid...

Anyway, thank you all for your reviews. And Boy Luke 2k, that's exactly the reason why I used this remix. It is the harder part of the set and the Blue Sky version didn't fit in there.
I actually like it better, too!

Posted by djdawn on Nov-24-2001 09:32:

oh I never found "dreamland" very hard to mix. I attached the transition from my May 2001 set.

But I totally agree on Jan Johnson...not only the melody later, but also the sounds and rhythm in the beginning were very tricky.

EDIT: NEVERMIND, it didn't attach...I've made it only 430k so it should work. Maybe it's because Swamper changed something

you're not the only one having problems with attachments, i can't attach anything at the mo. , swamps did say something about changing/fixing attachments a bit ago, but i can't remember.

well, for those that are interested the sample is:

HERE

Cool

Do you have the tracklists from your older sets, just because I want to see the way your music style as a DJ has changed.

Posted by jp on Nov-24-2001 17:22:

Fine mix!

yes you did miss a beat at 14:18 lol!

Posted by Eugene on Nov-24-2001 18:51:

dawn,

First of all thanks for the NuNRG sample. I thought it was hard to mix because at the very end the synths just "level off" and there is a pause. There is a "tail" after that pause, with simple kicks and bass, but it's kind of short and not very natural -- if you bring a different bassline in, the change may be noticeable...

Regarding the 14:58 issue, I now think that I was wrong, everything is right. It's just that the song that follows has a pretty loud snare (2nd drum); this is especially clear at 15:08-15:18, for example. So I got the impression that, during the mix, there were 2 consecutive loud drums. But in reality the measures are matched correctly! Sorry about that...

Once again, an excellent mix, energy-packed and melodic.

I don't think he has actually missed a beat, the way I hear it is that during Future there is a dual crash cymbal, and that sounds a bit odd during mixing. I have a similar error when I mix Johan Gielen - Velvet Moods (Tisto Mix) and Gouryella - Tenshi, because the crashes are slightly offset. Have a listen to Trance Nation 5/2001 where Ferry does that mix and the crashes are slightly off. I have to say now that I've listened to it fully, I much prefer it to last months set, I prefer the tunes, more epic and uplifting. Last month's set was too hard for me, never stopped it getting into my walkman for a couple of weeks though. I also prefer your style of mixing in this set as it is less energetic and some of the changes are longer and sound excellent. I also really like the sampling you have done. It's not often I get up at 8:00 after having 6 cans last night to listen to a mix, but I'm glad I did And congatulations, its one of the best mixes I have heard in a while, in this so called 'dead period of trance,' to me if there are still people who really like this music, it will never die.

Thumbs up

Yet Another great set from Dawn...... i'm started to get sick of the flawless mixing...... i wanna hear some horrible trainwrecks! I want to hear some of those god-awful trainwrecks that only PvD can duplicate!

Other than the flawless mixing, it was great. Track Selection is not really my style, although i do find myself jammin to it in the car if i don't watch it.

i would have used the airscape remix of vengaboy's "kiss" instead of the original mix but hey, maybe that floats your boat better.

.....waiting for December's best of mix! Keep up the good work m8!

Cheers!
-ABT-

PS - maybe we can have a "best of" trainwreck set??? yeah yeah YEAH, horrible trainwrecks EVERY SONG TRANSITION! oh baby, i'm dreaming about it already...... LoL

Im only 11 minutes in and im liking it already.

Now I need to go get CDs so I can listen on my walk to school. Look what you make me do!

great mixes so far.

Dawn,

You mentioned you use Traktor as your third input. Do you have any trouble with keeping songs beat matched? I've been attempting the same but it's changing the speed ever so slightly and screwing things up. I've got it matched nicely then it will all of a sudden change a little and requires constant adjusting and even then it doesn't sound so hot.

Man you sure are talented

And thanks for showing me how to tune my technics!

Posted by Cable on Dec-01-2001 18:24:

Finally got around to finish downloading it(56k), so far i like all the songs except the first two (half way thru)

Posted by Cable on Dec-01-2001 18:56:

I must say i like this mix better than last months, theres only 3 songs too hard for my taste, and the transitions are good, but u forgot to throw in one trainwreck

Exclamation IMPORTANT INFO

I just came back from a weekend trip and found out that people can't access the folder at the moment. I have not changed anything and can't fix it right now. I will try to get support tomorrow.
The download may still work if you access the file directly:

it works, but you need to put the whole name (not just the underlined part) GetRight or Gozilla. I will contact the hosting company today and try to fix it asap.
Try copying this:
http://www.djdawn.de/muzik/DJ Dawn - November 2001.mp3 into GetRight as "New URL", I just tried it and it works.

Qudda, that track is on Axwax (# 2015) and the record is called "Overdrive", the "Colour Of Trance" is the B-Side.

OK, I talked to my webhoster and they changed the automatic file-listing system or something...

The link www.djdawn.de/muzik should now work!

feel free to laugh at the layout!

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Dec-04-2001 19:10:

Cool

It's okay, maybe change the colours, centre the text?

Now that's what I call streamlined.

i still get about 4-5 downloads per day...does anyone of the leechers care to give me some feedback?

To all that don't have this mix yet:
I will take it down in a week. Thursday 13th will be the last active day.

Thanks and see you soon with a new mix!
