Ever stop and look at the numbers of people who have disorders like depression, social anxiety, etc.? Probably not if you're writing this. As if it's as easy for some people as just "this severly depresses me but how about I just smile at being depressed and having no zest for life!".

People don't appreciate what they have and don't bitch for the right reasons but some people have valid excuses for it.

My condolonces on your loss, no one should have to go through something like that.

Thanks, man...but honestly people have it way worse than I do (hahaha that's positive thinking for ya!) and it's life...shit happens but it's what you make of it in the LONG term that is most important (short term you can do whatever the heck you want--i.e. be angry, curse, do stupid things) but the long term affects you the most so why not be positive?

P.S. that Richard Simmons post was absolutely KICK ASS!!!! LOL!!!! HAHAHAHAHAA

I agree with you and I try to think the same way but I have obstacles (clinical depression, social phobia, ADD, obsessive compulsive disorder) that make it hard to do it. I still appreciate what I have though. Most negative events are just learning experiences and lessons in appreciation.

Good stuff Vrk! ^5

Being happy is a choice, just the same as is being sad.

Some can't make the "choice" and can't merely think something is good to be happy.

Posted by rabbitjoker on Apr-28-2005 05:21:

You don't understand....

Lets say a glass falls and breaks on the floor.

By itself - the glass breaking is just an event, something that has happened.

What makes it "good" or "bad" is one's interpretation (self-communication) with respect to the event.

Interpretation of events is what drives emotional response. Change the interpretation - change the emotion.

Posted by rabbitjoker on Apr-28-2005 05:22:

And don't reply: "Some can't interpret". That's pretty weak.

I understand what you're getting at and that may be true for a lot of people but in my case something like a glass dropping might make me feel like shit for the rest of the day.

Posted by Blue. on Apr-28-2005 05:32:

I just want this to hit page 2 so that I don't have to stop my music and turn the volume down every time I enter this thread.

If you're satisfied with that outcome, congratulations. I hope things stay the same.

If you're not satisfied with that outcome, unfortunate. I hope things change.

Of course I'm not but it's something beyond my control unfortunately. I love the things I have both material and not and I appreciate them day in and day out and consider myself blessed for having family and friends, a roof over my head, clean clothes, food, healthy, etc. but happyness is rare.

Man, I hope there is some therapy/drugs that will eventually balance you inside so you can stop the therapy/drugs (sorry--don't know if you take either but I know some people who have ADD and OCD and take medicine for it)

Drugs are a last resort for me, unless I absolutely have to take them I want to work things out naturaly. I just recently heard that a lot of kids have become suicidal on antidepressants (who would have thought) and I'm not suicidal now nor do I plan to be. I put myself into therapy months ago, it's a slow process but it really does help if you go into it with open arms like I did.

I hope we here at TOTA can also hopefully act as a form of therapy for you...of course we're not professionals but the music and the vibe should help (I hope!)

EDIT:
By the way, I always thought that was a pretty cool quote in your sig, kind of trippy, but now after hearing about your perspective on life I feel like there might be something more to it...care to share?

If you guys are going to see Scumfrog at Boa or Deep Dish at the Guv next month then you can definately help me out in the vibe category I appreciate the kind words.

The quote is from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a huge drug movie which oddly enough I havn't yet seen on drugs. It's more just a cool quote from a cool movie than it is a reflection of my own life.

Damn wish I could be at Deep Dish just for that reason but I already have tickets for Danny T...maybe in June?

And I think I saw that movie with Johnny Depp but don't remember it...will have to do a refresher!
