I'm not a big Clannad / Enya fan by any means but I do know this - the language you refer to which is used by Clannad is Irish (Gaelic). All of the Clannad group come from a beautiful rural area called Gaoth Dobhair (pronounced Gweedore)in County Donegal in Ireland. They took their name from the phrase 'an Clann as Dobhar' meaning 'the family from the townland of Dobhair'.

Ive been to the pub that Enya's family members own ("Teach Leo" meaning Leo's Tavern) many times while up there on short vacations, this is where they started off their music careers at a young age when there would be many Irish traditional music sessions held, and there are platinums and gold records as well as other meorabilia and posters up round the walls.

I am Irish - and a GAY-lic - these vocals are haunting and beautiful - most irish laments are full of sorrow and death - quite moody!

LOVE IT!!

Sorry what I meant was "Gweedore" is the English version of the local townlad area which in Irish is called "Gaoth Dobhair". Its pronunciation in Irish is "Gee Dowair" or if your a local "Gee Dowey". Meanwhile the pronunciation of "Gweedore" is as you see. Confused now ?
