we pay a fairly decent wage, top earners on 30k a week ish, ie. okocha, diouf i think is on 25k, then other big names on similar. By not paying transfer fees, simply which we can't, we have the chance to pay a semi-decent wage, but remembering that many of the players we get have lost their way, we usually offer incentive based pay, good bonuses for wins & landmarks, and I think it's showing. We simply don't have the huge transfer fees unless we sell, and the only likely sale this summer would be Jaaskelainen if Man Utd or someone come in for him, then we'd get an equally good player for minimal fees (Jussi cost 150k) and make profits if needed. examples are
Gudjohnsen - free to us, 4.5m to chelsea
Curcic 1m to us 4m to aston villa (1998)
jensen - 1m to us, 4.5m to charlton
alan thompson - 200k to us, 4.5m to aston villa (1998 ish)
We are mainly just a sensible club, we don't spend out of our means, but we have a great spirit, and a manager who's one of the best i nthe country, maybe europe, especially given the job he's done with us in the last 6 years.

no doubt big sams a fantastic manager and thats a brilliant business policy the clubs adopting given that sam is known to be a shrewd bastard in the transfer market but its weird that despite refraining from big spending, bolton fail to register profits ... with that kind of policy and the reebok stadium being a fairly large one, youd kinda expect to see gains ... could your chairman be playing peter risdale or is it lack of euopean qualification?

When mr gartside came in, about 1999, we were in a bad bad shape, 30 million in debt etc. It's only by being very strong that he's been able to turn us around. Now we're in our best shape ever, and we did make a profit last time I think, of a couple of million. We're run as a club not a business though, which is how it should be imo

couldnt care less about that ... id rather support a team that does reasonably well with money that it deserves to have rather than have more money than it knows what to do with and wins everything ... you kinda appreciate the club more ...
