Hiyas! Well I hope I can give a bit of help here.

We need to set a door price that is fair to the lineup. If we can possible get some bigger names the price can go higher. If were serious about doing this we need to decide on a date soon and start contacting talent that we would like to play.

Also what we need to think about is if we were to rent out a warehouse we'll have to worry about security, drinks, first aid, and even some licensing depending on what city it was thrown in. just to save our arses you know.

or

We rent out a club, that has the security, drinks, first aid and other crap we wouldn't have to worry about would be provided, but for a higher price. but perhaps they would let us keep the door in exchange for the bar sales of the night or something else.

which brings the ticket price again. just hopefully we can find a club that will give us a good deal.

as much as i would love to see this here in atlanta, i know it wouldn't happen. i would be able to assist more with talent if it was thrown here. i could help anyways by having a post on JIVE Magazine Forums I could also make a post on two other Atlanta forums as well.

since it would be a car ride for us atlanta folks please put it in central florida, otherwise it makes it difficult for us all to come.

anyways hope i was helpful and if you need anymore help, feel free to private message me or hit me up on aim.

LeeAnn

This is a great plan in the making

Posted by DJ_Release on May-13-2005 05:01:

Ok guys, so far after day 1 of planning with El Maestro, these are the issues we are facing:

1. Location - Atlanta, Orlando or Miami?
2. Venue - Club, Park, Beach, Warehouse?
3. Headliners - One, Two, Three, None?
4. Date - As of now we are thinking August or September. Thoughts?

If you guys can figure out any of these four initial issues, please post here or PM Maestro or myself

So far a number of people have PMed Maestro about joining the organizing committee to lend a hand with this

1. Location - Atlanta, Orlando or Miami?
i think orlando would be best bc its the belly bottom for mia and atl peeps
2. Venue - Club, Park, Beach, Warehouse?
any but warehouse sounds more ravey and posible party late into the morning
3. Headliners - One, Two, Three, None?
if its an all day(night) party 2,if its just a couple of hours i'd say maybe one or none,i think we have enough talent here to cover for a couple of hours
4. Date - As of now we are thinking August or September. Thoughts?
either or

And to clarify the money profit issue; this project is not about making loads of money. Its about putting on some kick ass parties and showcasing local talent. Cash will be accounted for and put in corporate accounts. Im thinking we can set up a non-profit. Any extra money, if any will be used to do the following year bigger and better.

one of the things i used to do in pa was to get involved with a charity organization... make it a benefit as well... adds to promotional power and gives the event some significance... sometimes helps bring down the price of headliner also

My take:

1. Location - Atlanta, Orlando AND Miami
2. Venue - Depends on price and opportunity
3. Headliners - This project was originally about the local talent pool. Not organizing a way to throw an event and get headliners to show and charge loads of money. That can be another project.
4. Date - Whenever appropriate
5. Charity: Good idea but it has to be the right one. I think it has to fit. While @ the WMC, one of the panelists, D:Fuse and Liquid Todd were involved with a non-profit group that helps teach underprivileged kids how to produce and DJ. Ill get more info.

great idea

Ok. Just got back from Miami Beachs City Hall. Had a real good talk with their Film & Event Manager. I dont think well be doing this on the beach. While this is a disappointment, he did mention something that just made a lot of sense. Why not do it during the WMC?

The more I thought about it, it cant be ignored. Why not organize a SETA event during the conference? Everyone will be here anyway. Wed have another set of problems to deal with if we go that route.

Posted by d-kristopherre on May-13-2005 19:26:

conference is quite a distance away.

i agree to do an event at that time would most def. be a success. especially if promoted globally on TA. pull in TA's from all regions-dj's and guests

but im sure there has got to be some venue in miami willing to host a show of this magnatude. it should be large; attended by a large percentage of seta's. are there any clubs that are struggling or new, that would be willing to give us a shot?

if we do a club, maybe getting a TA headliner will help make the establishment more comfortable with accepting our proposal

That might work. The Pawn Shop, which is far away from the other venues, did well. If we can find some other obscure venue, we could bring the party to them.

doesn't sound like a bad idea.
If anyone could provide insight on any venue with this description we could try and work something out with them

Posted by d-kristopherre on May-13-2005 19:48:

i wish i could give some insight, but im new.

of course, this is all i did in PA. find new venues and SHMOOOOOOOOZE!

Posted by Driguez on May-13-2005 20:48:

well we could do 2 and with the money from the first one we can do a bigger party for WMC

Posted by d-kristopherre on May-13-2005 21:07:

that was EXACTLY what i had in mind....

perhaps do a few, with respectable charities, ie toys for tots... each featuring locals, maybe a TA headliner... use the profits to turn a massive, featuring all regional TA's, perhaps a venue w/ mult rooms, diff room each region... try set a yearly precedent. try to get other regional TA's to create funds and buzz for the yearly get-together.

could be something special

Posted by DJ_Release on May-13-2005 23:07:

there is a poll supposed to come up asking all SETA's about which possibility they would prefer

As far as doing small events to then create a bigger one that sounds like a very good proposal to me

there's 2 things we would need to do if we want that to happen:

1. Find our an obscure venue like we said before that is willing to provide us with space to throw monthly parties perhaps

2. Figure out if we can get sponsors for this parties. i.e. charities (if anyone is willing to find out any type of sponsor, please let us know) In Venezuela the biggest and better parties are those that are sponsored by beers, cigarette brands, etc.. coming up with one or two would be massive

Posted by d-kristopherre on May-13-2005 23:33:

sponsors shouldnt be that tough...
beers, red bull, liquors are usually more than willing to provide some help... especially if we have a charity. or if our chosen venue already has deals with the afore mentioned company... ie club/bar

Posted by el.maestro on May-14-2005 23:16:

We've all tossed around some very good ideas here. I thin maybe some of them could take on a separate life of their own. At this point, I think the simpler we keep it, the more likeley it will happen.

IE: Rent a space, set up some equipment, have the party.

The WMC idea, IMO is a damn good idea and that is a sepparate effort all together. Monthly parties, maybe, I don't think we're there yet. IMO, let's do the first simple get-together and work from there.

Posted by d-kristopherre on May-14-2005 23:51:

let us do it then!

i've been saying this for the past 2 WMCs, along with many others. much like resident advisor, pulse radio, and other sites throw their own parties during WMC, tranceaddict (all of it) could. just no one has taken the lead and invested the time to make it happen.

I won't even be there anymore... but Gainesville could be a blast if people didn't complain and not show up anytime they have to drive more than 30 min.

Cheap ass venues. Cheap ass Hotels. Dirty UF skanks =) Exactly in the middle of ATL - MIA

This has actually turned into a possible venue for the event
we'll see in the near future what happens

I'd love to help out. I spin as well, but I'm down for doing behind the scenes things as well. I'm always on aim, best way to find me. Just lemme know...

Everything supposedly shuts down at 2 AM in Gainesville. Wed definitely have to do an after party as well. Ive been told there is not a very big EDM following in Gainesville. That could be a problem.
