actually compared to intel processors mac processors are much better at what they do, for example a 2.0 GHz PowerPC G5 would outperform a 3.0GHz Pentium 4. Not exactly slow hey? Apple also has the advantage (or monopoly which ever way you want to look at it) for specifically designing their operating system for their hardware, this makes the choice of hardware limited, but at least support for it is much better and more stable. They can spend less time testing with thousands of pieces of hardware and really focus on making a good OS and applications

maybe DUAL G5 which is significantly more expensive.

well, tons of ignorant comments once again
pc users: pc;s are the best, fastest and greatest!
mac users: mac's are the best fastest and greatest!

mac is more of an industry standard in the audio world, but more and more pc's are being used in studios now as well

now pc's offer many 64 bit processors which speed wise could outrun a dual G5
- xeons , pentium 570's
the mac processors do function in a different way and are more tweaked for audio production in some cases (logic 7 - tweaked for g5)

however, i would say it is personal preference, if you like the pc interface, stay with pc, you could build a powerful powerful pc just as you can with mac

both can be just as fast, just as powerful, and just as reliable , it is up to you, and depending on how you tweaked the system, the software, etc...

so skip the ignorant comments, the personal bias and do your own research

peace!

no i wasnt refering to a dual system i mean a single processor system

For the record i am a PC (linux) user

both platforms have their merits and drawbacks, personally i'd buy a dual 2.7 g5 system if my funds allowed but they dont. Apple have come a long way recently, i used to hate apple computers until osx came along.
