Too much issue is taken with lyrics. What really profound thing is there to sing about anyway? Just as long as lyrics aren't overly cliched, there's nothing necessarily "cheesy" about hearing something that isn't philosophically intelligent. Again, IMO cheese is primarily constituted by the production of a song rather than the lyrics. Lyricless trance can be just as cheesy if not worse than those containing vocals.

"Cheesy" has also become such a nebulous and arbitrary term that it has lost it's importance. It means something slightly, if not radically, different to everyone.

Again, trance is largely PARTY MUSIC and therefore less meaningful lyrics are an inevitability. The hypnotic sound of the voice and melodic music are far more important than lyrics.

So if I were you I'd just cut it out.

hydarnes, as much as i want to agree, some lyriclines in some songs are just so hilariously bad that it can't be ignored.

And I wholeheartedly agree. It's getting pretty bad. But the originator here is dissing Justine Suissa simply because "clear blue water" might not be the most philosophically intelligent thing to be said.

Here is the cheesiest lyrics I've ever heard...I dare you to find something worse than this:

Barcode Brothers - SMS

I'm sending you an sms
I'm sending you an s-sms
I've got a phone i wanna call you
i'm alone i've got you under my skin
is there some way i can win
is there some way for me to say
i think about you every day
what can i do i've been so blue
i've gotta get this message to you

I'm sending you an sms
I'm sending you an s-sms
i'm feeling that it could be the best
to send you and s-sms

with every peep my hart crumbles i can not sleep
I hear you poisin my mind you've got my heart over line
is there some way for me to say
i think about you every day
what can i do i've been so blue
i've gotta get this message to you

I'm sending you an sms
I'm sending you an s-sms
i'm feeling that it could be the best
to send you and s-sms

it's not too late communicate just grab the fade
and trust in fate what can i do i feel so blue
i got to get that message to you.

I'm sending you an sms
I'm sending you an s-sms
i'm feeling that it could be the best
to send you and s-sms

any that are in the pop chorus format are pretty stupid.

Posted by lacksesepsotygh on May-19-2005 23:03:

i find these hardstyle lyrics to be more laughable and cheesy. when they always have to announce the genre of the song they've made. HARDSTYLE MAZzTERZZZ, and sentences like 'we control the bass' etc. :I

WE WILL PROVE TO BE THE MASTERS OF BASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.. (!)

Okay, then. I'll blame both A-Ha and Milk Inc., A-Ha for coming up with the stupid song, and Milk Inc. for covering it (which you'd have to be out of your frickin' mind to cover a song as ridiculous as that ).

Hey, the original by A-Ha is quite good even to the text might not be the most intelligent

I think they suck...there are so many more talented writers/singers out there...

Justine Suissa is one of the best vocalists in trance, so I'm ont sure what you mean.

I hate her voice, it sounds cliche, over-done and has no soul.

Sarah McLachlan, Sinead O'Conner, Kelli Alli are all much more talented singers.

Justine's voice is a very natural and unpretentious one, that's why. She sings so effortlessly, almost as if she doesn't need to try to impress with extra emotion. This simplistic and mellow formula grants her that special touch.

As for Sarah McLachlan, she has a nice voice, but very mediocre for trance. Sinead, yes, another good voice. Kelli Alli? Remind me what she sings in?

iio - rapture
kosheen - catch
oakenfold - southern sun
cass & slide - perception (vocal mix)
who do you love now? ruined stringer.

I'm not going to praise A-ha or anything, but I can't really see what's so especially bad about those vocals. You have to be stupid if you think they're to be taken literally, so what's that shit about Wheather Channel?

If you want really bad vocals, listen to norwegian "trance" artist Dina. It's so pathetic it's almost funny.

these lyrics are so fucking bad it makes me sad, because the tune is so fucking good otherwise IMO.

jase from outta space - do what you want

these vocals always make me go as they sound so bad IMO. what makes it even worse is that everyone else loves this tune, so it's played in like every other set! IMO the lyrics are so bad teeny bopper material, worse than britney and the chick sounds just plain fucking horrible. i can't stand this tune at all!

there's lots more too, but i can't think of any more atm.

When our eyes met
I just can't believe
You're with someone else

With, one kiss, you have me
I wanna look into your eyes
To feel a little special, place..

If you ever need me
I've been waitin' for so long
Startin' to kill me
What do I have to do?

It's like she's cast a spell
I wish I knew how to break it
So you'd take a little notice of me

When our eyes met
I just can't believe
You're with someone else

I'll be here for you
If you ever need me
I'll be here for you

I wanna take you away
We could forget about life for a while
Drift into a world of ecstasy
Where I can hold you

You look so happy with her
I wouldn't want to tear you apart
But whatever happens
I just want you to know

If you ever need me
I'll be here for you

I've been waitin' for so long
Startin' to kill me
What do I have to do?

suck it foo!

Nadia Ali and Naimee Coleman are definitely up there!

BTW, the AVB edit for "Rapture" is the only version that really shines IMO, but does an awfully good job at it.

Satoshie Tomiie - Love In Traffic

Not really trance...but whatever.

And Sarah McLachlan has much more amazing vocals and lyrics. Fear (Hybrid Remix) for example, or World On Fire (JunkieXL Remix)

Thanks.

Well, again, I like S.Mclachlan, I just don't think her voice is "trancey" enough, so to speak. I wish her stuff would stop getting remixes because they sound like just that - remixes, not actual trance songs. I will admit that the airscape mix of silence is growing on me, otherwise it's just not that stellar of a song.

Kirsty Hawkshaw has the best voice in trance IMO anyway.

Cheers!
