it was at that point, when i turned around to my significant other and said, "umm yea, we need to leave like NOW"

he is scary enough when he's the pale ghost...i can't imagine seeing him burnt red...i bet he looked like the devil

Jules moaning about the club as well.. theres a surprise

The final port of call was Republik in Toronto Canada on Sunday May 22nd. The following day was a public holiday meaning that the city was hosting a number of big parties. At another Toronto club Danny Tenaglia was playing from 10pm til 2pm the following afternoon. Much as I love my job, I cant really feel a great deal of empathy with a dj who wants to play a 16 hour set. Theres plenty of great tracks around at the mo, but certainly nothing like 16 hours worth. My musical style is all about shorter sets with intensive bursts of energy, and doesnt translate well into playing for more than a maximum of 3-4 hours.

Republic was an example of an otherwise fantastic venue with a poorly situated dj booth. It was in a corner too far away from the crowd and partially obscured by a speaker stack. However I should point out that it only opened two months ago, and the booth is in a temporary location. Whilst the club wasnt totally full, the atmosphere was awesome. As someone who loves nothing better than interacting with the crowd, I feel I could have done my job better if I felt more connected with the dancefloor, not removed from it, but it was a good night all the same. After my set I felt it was sensible to let the club promoter know my thoughts- after all theyd got everything else so right, and hopefully the new booth will be more suitable. I was really well looked after and the Toronto crowd continues to be one of the coolest in the world to play to. Theres so many great venues, and Republik is certainly up there with the best of them.
