would you consider this an "anthem filled set"? i know the last 2 r anthems, but i made this cd for a friend and i know how much he loves them songs so i put them on the end, i would never normally play them.

An anthem is usually a song which you will still remember (and like, in most cases...) after a couple of years.

As for the list Unknown DJ posted, I wouldn't call it an anthem filled set, but it contains quite a lot of songs which have been played a lot.

Just the fact that a song gets a lot of attention by DJ's doesn't make it an anthem, does it?

C-Sharp - The Quest... it started it all for me. and in my opinion, is one of the greatest trance songs ever.

can i say that???

Anthems hmmmm... lets' see

Well some of these have been mentioned before but I may have missed it.

Ayla - Ayla
Mauro Picotto - Lizard
Art of Trance - Madagascar
Blank and Jones - Cream (Not the PvD mix as it's shite )
Brain Bug - Nightmare
Citizen Caned - The Journey
Tiesto - Suburban Train
M3 - Bailamos (Matt Darey Mix)
Nalin and Kane - Beachball
Faithless - Insomnia
Sister Bliss - Sister sister
System F - Exhale (Not to mention a whole lot of other Ferry stuff)
William Orbit - Adagio for strings (Ferry Corsten Mix)
Tukan - Light a rainbow (Green court mix)
PPK - Resurection
Ralph Fridge - Angel
Agneli and Nelson - El Nino
Motorcycle - As the rush comes (This will undoubtedly reach anthem status)
Saltwater - The Legacy (Alphazone remix)
Pulser - My Religion
Push - Strange world
DK - Murder was the bass (Not your typical anthem but has the same effect on a hard dance crowd)
Jose Amnesia - The Eternal
Da Hool - Meet her at the love parade

Hmmmm, this looks like a playlist after one of Dave Pearce' nights he he.

The truth about this anthem...
Darude - Sandstorm
This track was an anthem in it's own right and by the time it had been heard by the masses it was nearly two years old so had been around the club scene for a long time before that. Darude's downfall (Appart from no DJing skills whatsoever) was his success. It may be cheesy but then anthems often are.

The Ultimate Anthem in Nem's book
Energy 52 - Cafe' del Mar 'Three n' one mix'
Biggest anthem of all time in my book. It is THE Ibiza soundtrack! Was in Ibiza first time I heard it. Was the last night we were there too, and we just got totally mullered and then this thing came on and I though my head was going to explode. Actually had a girl standing next to me burst into tears and she turned to me and said "It's beautiful" and then flung her arms around me... which was nice. There is nothing better than a random hug from an equally battered and beautiful stranger when you are totally minced to the eyeballs. (They should actually have an emote that gurns)

I have a lot of fond DJing memories from that track too...

It's fair to say that there are tons of anthems and they can be a very personal experience too so not everyone agrees on them.

Cheers
Nem

Anything that stands the test of time and still has a 'wow' factor even after years.....both from the crowd and the dj playing it.....

I have a box i take to work which only contains what i consider to be classics and anthems, for an angel, beachball, greece 2000, cafe del mar, da hool, barbers adagio etc etc...mainly big 'ibeefa' tunes from the last few years

has to be big to stay in that box....(yes motorcycle is in there at the mo...we shall see how long for)

I agree 110% with nem on this:
Energy 52 - Cafe' del Mar 'Three n' one mix'

I still get emotional every time i play this- and thats often several times a week...... the breakdown........... fill the room with smoke, black it out, get the lazer on, and wow....you're back in amnesia in 1998.........
If anyone into dance music (i hesitate to say music in general) is not moved by that buildup and breakdown....then you have no pulse......

Just thought I would add a few to the list that I feel are anthems, in my mind atleast, however alot have already been posted, sorry for any doubles (or triples):

Chicane - Saltwater
PVD - For an Angel
Cygnus X - Superstrings
Ferry Corsten - Punk
Ferry Corsten - Indigo
PVD - Another Way

Its a short list... But I am also incredibly tired..

Cheers.

I would have to disagree with Magik 6 being a bunch of anthems. See that cd made them anthems... most of them weren't all that popluar when they came out, now half the people who don't know the track names just go... "Ohh thats the song from magik 6 i love ths one!"

My top athems would have to be:
Tiestos remix of Sielnce, Carrera 2 by 3Drives, The Quest by C Sharp, Energy 52 Cafe del Mar and any remix of Binary Finary 1998/1999/2000

Probably the 2 that stand out most for me are as was said before, Cafe Del Mar (3 in 1 mix) and Push-Strange World (2000 remake). Both Armin and Marco played it last time they were in town and the place went ape shit. God I love that track...

Can't forget Xpander though, that's a classic all the way too.

I wouldnt say that everything that those djs play is, although they do play many anthems as they come, I dont generally hear PVD playing classic anthems like Binary Finary in his sets, unless another new remix has been done.

Was SOLAR STONE-7 CITIES forgetten? there are many excellent songs out there but only a large handful that can be played for "Eternity" =)

Personally the only Nu-NRG track that I'd consider an anthem would be Dreamland.

they tend to get the crowd moving
they tend to be that one of that dj's "when all else fails" tracks, to steal from seb fontaine

some djs and a lot of bedroom djs just pump out nothing BUT anthems, and ive heard magik 6 described in its worse light as "just a bunch of anthems"
but i would beg to differ...

undisputed anthems on that cd imo...
yahel - voyage
delerium - silence (tiesto mix)
moogwai - viola (armin mix)

you could say a few others perhaps, but those are pretty much "obvious tracks that everyone knows."

hope its a little clearer for you now

It's a damn shame Patticus gave up on trance
