The entire point of this thread is comparing turntablists and trance DJ's on a technical level NOT who can better use a turntable.
Turntablists are at a higher technical level when using turntables YES because they do a lot more with them but personally, when I see them handle a mixer, I see it as the equivalent of angry masturbation.

SO....what about Zabiela and his mad skills he throws in as both a DJ and a turntablist? I like to think that a turntablist isnt exactly a great DJ, they know how to work a Vinyl and a turntable, maybe 2, but do they know how to work a crowd of trance hungry fans?

I didnt know Zabi could be a turntablist without using turntables

heh, I didn't really mean anything by "a real DJ set" it was just quicker than saying "a set from technical DJs where they mix teh songs together".

Anyway DJs like Zabiela are exceptions because they do both, so they are awesome and transcend our conversation.

turntablism is an art that consumes itself within its own principle. it's not a search for what sounds good, rather for what is harder to do. it's also more of a physical discipline oriented thign than beatmixing, because it requires practice on the use of certain muscles, coordination of the hands, speed, agility, and whatnot.

beatmixing is a search for what sounds best, not what's harder to do. mixing 128BPM tracks with 140BPM ones and maintaining them in key and then upping the tumpos whilst playing another record backwards, and crossfading with your penis may be increidbly hard to do, but it will also probably sound like shit. so, a DJ would probably avoid such an action. this, in turn, is based on ear, on taste, concept and flow, rather than a physical skill.

err, sir, you may have noticed you don't necessarily have to use vinyl to be a turntablist anymore. hell, CDJ-1000s make even more sense for a turntablist than an EDM DJ. the whole looping, cue points, remixing on the fly, 100% pitch and whatnot could add a WHOLE lot more to turntablism.

The skill of turntablism is not moving a piece of plastic about with your hands (and other), it's about making people dance by moving that piece of plastic. And I can't spell.
