D!abolic, good to see one of your posts again.

For someone who such a huge advocate for the "Rich dad poor dad" philosohpy, it surprises me that you will be spending 1k a month to be insured on top of the vehicle cost.

Although, i do believe in celebrating successes once in a while.

Just a thought....

You will have to let us know how cheap you actually get insurance for

I got pulled over like four times with that piece of fake paper and it works all the time.

I so hope that you are either kidding or independently wealthy. A couple of things you should think about BEFORE driving without insurance....

a) driving without insurance is punishable by a maximum $5,000 fine (if the cops ever decide to check)

b) as you have no insurance you certainly do not have up to date license plate tags/stickers..... maximum fine $5,000

c) passing fraudulent documents, punishable by incarceration not exceeding ten years

d) under the no fault insurance system in Ontario if you cause an accident the driver of the other vehicle's insurance company pays their damages.... HOWEVER, since you are not insured they have a subrogated right (meaning they can sue you) to recover those damages.... average physical damage claim in Ontario is appoximately $7,000

e) Should you cause a motor vehicle collision which results in injury to another person, without liability coverage you will be liable to pay all damages awarded to that person. Recently I paid a claim for a young woman who suffered a broken pelvis and will never work again.... I paid $680,000 plus interest and legal costs.... this was a GOOD settlement as her claim was easily worth 1,000,000. Average out of court settlement of a bodily injury claim in Ontario is $30,000 plus interest and legal costs. BTW, if you are unable to pay the Ontario government (through an agency called MVAC) will garnish your wages up to 50% per year until your debt is paid.

f) Should YOU be injured in an automobile accident while uninsured YOU will only have access to minimum medical coverage. You will have NO coverage for lost wages regardless of whether or not you were at fault for the accident. Moreover, if you are operating a vehicle without insurance YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SUE. This means that if you are driving withouth insurance and I hit you causing you to become a paraplegic you have NO RECOURSE AGAINST ME (enjoy becoming a ward of the state!).

Driving without at least the minimum liability coverage is by far the worst gamble you can make in this country. Minimum limits will likely run you $200-$500 a year.... Why anyone would risk everything they own including the rest of their life over $200 a year is beyond me. But hey, you're the smart guy getting one over on the system.... you tell me.

Serious or are you attempting sarcasm?... it's hard to tell in print.

Posted by MaxTO on Jun-16-2005 19:43:

somebody I know got caught without insurance recently

long story short, he spent a few weeks in jail, got fined (don't know how much, most likely $5,000) and almost got deported back where he came from (he's a "visitor" here and doesn't have his Canadian citizenship)

I drank a 200ml bottle of that stuff the other weekend and it knocked me on my ass. That is the best alcohol. The tracers make it even more fun.

The zone is like a paracite... once it is in your blood it is a part of you, forever.

Insurance in Toronto is fucked. There are soooo many cars out there I can afford and want to buy but can't face the idea that my insurance will outvalue the car in two years. I was quoted 13k a year for insurance on a 1985 Porsche 944 S2. The car averages 20-28k. I've found a stunning Metallic Black 1988 BMW M6 Euro for 33k, I think that is going to be where all of my current money is going. Screw the insurance it's my ultimate dream car (outside the realm of 100+K cars).

I posted some useful information for lowering your insurance costs earlier in this thread.... you may want to check that out.

BTW, if the Porsche costs 28K to buy 13K to have full coverage you may want to drop the collision portion of the policy... that will be the lionshare of the 13K... say the collision is 7K and the ACTUAL CASH VALUE (what insurance pays for a total loss) is approximately 14K (I just did an ACV search on one) then so long as you don't total it in the first two years you're coming out ahead of the game. Why pay 7K to insure something that's worth 14K.... it doesn't make sense.
